I have a Bendix BDW54 and the door wont lock shut, so of course d/washer wont work unless you hold door shut, so may as well wash up whilst standing there!

Why does my dishwasher not close

Sounds like my daughter and her kids sitting on the door when its down. When lifted into position the latch no longer matches the"catch" It might require a little ingenuity to bend the door hinges back. it definitely sounds mechanical. Even a pro wouldn't let you watch how he bends that back. worse case scenario bite the bullet, call service tech, pay for labor AND parts (hinges or latch/catch) thinking again some of the older models (like cars) the latch is engaged and is waiting/depending on the opening of the door to change it's position. trying to shut it and a hard metal on metal clunck! might indicate a closed latch and not bent hinges... Good luck and give Fixya a bit of feed back~~~hope this helps---> S

Whirlpool dishwasher door will not click shut to allow washing cycle to start

Check to be sure the gasket that is between the unit and the door is in its proper palce, it may be knocked out of its normal spot and keeping the door form closing all the way where the latch would engage.

I have a Diplomat ADP8234 and the door won't close properly. It appears to be a problem with the catch. I also can't set a program but I think it might be linked to the catch problerm. Any advice

Hi, I have the same problem and when I use a screwdriver to flip the door catch to what looks like a closed position the dishwasher works fine but once finished the same problem is back until I reset the door switch again. Did you ever find a soloution please? Is it the door catch or the control board at fault?

Ariston dish washer door will not shut properly.

Hello,
Check that something has not got wedged behind the top basket stopping it closing fully. If that is ok what can happen is that if there is something causing the door not closing fully ,when you try to close door to do a wash instead of the little hook actuator in the door switch fully engaging with the clasp on the body of unit,it closes down before it engages. It is like a finger hooking over say the top of your trousers. If you turn power off and get 2 small screwdrivers and carefully put them either side of the hook on door then try to bring it back to its open position.

Hope this helps.

My door doesn't seal/catch when closing. Machine

If the door switchmechanism is still in place inside the door, you should be able to see it when you open the door ,it is visible on the inside if the door top centre if it is intact then it could be that the actuator bracket has moved, this is located under the top panel front centre and is held in position by an hexagonal nut. the top is secured at the back of the machine by 2 screws one on the left and one on the right remove the two screws slide the top to the rear approx 1/2 inch lift off the top you can now access the door catch bracket, close the door and adjust the bracket forward so that it latches securely but don't position it to far forward or it could bottom on the back of the door mechanism, if everthing is in place unit should be fixed, reposition top onto the two front lugs and slide top gently forward replace the two screwws at the back and you should be in business

The door will not close. It appears that the lock is in the closed position and will not allow the catch to close fully and engage. The m/c is mid cycle so I have switched off at the main socket

Check for obstructions, Check the door latch the latch may have moved into its housing, use a screw and position the door latch properly free from any obstruction, then try closing the door again..if not then you may need to replace the door.hope this helps pls do let meknow

The soap dispenser does not open to let the detergent out during the wash cycle.

Sometimes if the tablet is not put in correctly it makes the door catch jam as the tablet is pushing against the door and not leting the catch move to open. try putting the tablet in then close the door then just flick the catch to open the door to see if it opens easy. if this dose not cure it then the door catch has moved or got loose behind the door cover. with the electricty off and plug removed you migh try taking the screws that hold the main door front on and then checking the plastic arms are all inline and move easy. the door catch works on a selonoid that throws open the catch, its unlikly that this has gone open curcuit but if this is not opperating i think you need to call an engineer.

it's the door switch gone bad or the wire going to it has fallen off.
