Question about Onkyo TX-SR602 Receiver

Open Question

Can not get past "Auto SP Setup?"

When I turn on the receiver the message display reads "Auto SP Setup?"
I can not turn it off. It goes through the setup procedure, one speaker to another. No sound is being produced. Asks to save or retry and just sits there. Keeps asking for the setup mic. Same displayis on the tv but cannot get out of this mode.

The repair shop is replacing 3 transistors in the receiver. It is going to cost me $75 for parts, $150 for labor. Ouch.

How do I turn the subtitles off for the yamaha HTR-5730 AV receiver? When I hook the cable up directly to the TV, there are no subtitles, but when the video output goes through the receiver, subtitles

The receiver manual may list it under "CC" (closed captions) instead of subtitles. Also, don't just check your AV receiver; try checking the setup menu on your TV, and look at the TV remote. See if there's a CC setting that may be turned on, either through the TV setup (probably under the "Display" or "Video" tab) or because you've accidentally pushed the CC (or Subtitles) button on the TV remote.

  1. Press the SETUP key to enter the SETUP mode and select SETUP SYSTEM using up arrow or down arrow

  2. Select SP SETUP and press the SETUP key again so that the speaker system indication "SP SYSTEM" scrolls across the display.

  3. Press up arrow or down arrow to select OTHERS and press SETUP key

E-6:sur sp on auto setup What does it mean?

Page 102 under troubleshooting: it thinks you have Surround Back speakers but NO Surround speakers. This would be an invalid configuration. Refers to page 13 for the remedy.

Pioneer VSX-D710S and the message SP off and DTS off message appear and I have no sound. Any ideas how to turn them back on?

The SP off message is the setting for turning the speakers off while headphones are connected on some Pioneer models. If yours is one such model, hold down the RECEIVER button and press the SPEAKER (text may be written above another main function) button on the remote simultaneously and the sound should return.

Often the amplifier turn itself off and when powering on back it displays the message "check wiring". Also, on auto setup mode, it hangs at the phase "wiring...check"

You have a speaker wire that's either touching the other post on the back of the receiver or a bad speaker or a bad wire. Check all your wiring and all will be well again. If you need more help, post a comment and I can help you further. Hope this helps

Yamaha RX-V361 DVD cuts off w/ check SP cable message

This message means that speakers are not connected properly. What is their impedance? What is the impedance set on the receiver via Advanced Setup menu (see manual)? Check if it is not short-circuited.
Try the receiver without speakers connected. If the message goes away, receiver is OK and problem is in the connection to the speakers.

Receiver is shutting down.....

First, I have to compliment you on a thorough and comprehensive problem description and an apparent sense of how to troubleshoot. We're halfway there already.

Your Blu-Ray / PS 3 statement is intriguing but with the E-1 code that absolves it as the problem.

You have two opposing symptoms: the live failure says you have a short while the test mode implies an open circuit. We have to isolate everything and see if it moves to another channel.

Let's run with the "E-1: NO FRONT SP" error. I think it's trying to tell us we have an intermittent sensation of an open wire in one of the Front speaker channels. * Unfortunately, the manual doesn't break out Left and Right (but I'm sure the receiver knows) to help us isolate. You say it doesn't get past the Left test. I need you to decide by listening to the Left Front Speaker setup routine if it's really working or not, and if it seems to be working, maybe the receiver is really failing at the point it advances to the Right Speaker, assuming Right follows left in the sequence.

Verify for me: You swapped the two front speakers Left to Right and replaced both speaker wires with NEW wires and had no improvement.

I'm wary of a failcode that doesn't identify which of a pair is failing, so I 'd like to see ALL NEW speaker hardware and connections in place to avoid the pitfall of swapping the L & R with each other and having one of them be the problem without changing the symptom.

We can accomplish this easily: Try temporarily running the rear speakers as the Fronts just to see if the test can pass. If so, test the Fronts as if they're the Rears speakers. You should be able to just swing the receiver-ends of the cables among the speaker posts.

Something should change or else the problem is internal to the receiver. Good luck.
