Hi,
this is a default check that windows does when a new network is detected "wireless or wired"
you must select the type of network this device is connecting too(public/private/home). for the most part you would select home.
do you get on the internet after choosing one? as either way you should be on the internet

GL
hope this helps

HOW DO I CONFIGURE A LINKSYS SD208 SWITCH

This unit does not require configuration. Simply connect main drop / ISP modem and use. The ports are auto detect, so basicly you can use any port. Uplink and / or crossover ready.

The full manual is only 9 pages, but even the 2 pager said it all.

I just need to connect 2 PCs via the Linksys 8-port switch, no internet connection. One is running XP & the other is running Vista. Both plugged into the numbered ports but I can't get the PCs to see...

If you are not connected to the Internet and both PC's are trusted and you want to network them. The easiest solution would be to disable the firewall on both machines since there's no need to block anything. You may also need to enable file sharing on the Vista machine under networking. If this is going to be a permanent setup and you don't plan on adding any other devices I would exchange the Switch w/ a crossover cable connected into each other to save on electricity.

Linksys Wireless-N pci adapter model wmp300n

If it says local or unidentified network that means you are just connected to the router on the network but not through the internet. Try to go to manage wireless network, remover your network there and add it again, connect to your own network and make sure to type the correct network key., then check again. You can also try connecting to other wireless network to further isolate the problem.

Networking

Yes, but you'll need a crossover cable to connect the two routers. You could buy a hub or a switch. They are easier to configure and cheaper.
