Take a close look at the flaps hanging out the exit for the printer. They should move up and down freely. If one of them is stuck up, broken or dislodged, you'll get the bin full error. The flaps on the other end (side you can't see) have little flags that sweep between photo sensors and tell the printer in the tray is full and if paper has exited the printer into the tray.

Hope that helps you.

The flaps will get you to the area that has the issue, but what you need to do is open the back side of the printer; where you can opt to have the finished print come out the backside. Use compressed air and blow that ****** out, while moving the front flaps up and down....repeat - blow it out good and you should not have to take it apart and wipe off the 'eye'....dust gets in there and covers up the 'eye' making the printer think the top is full.

Perform a "cold reset" on the printer
cycle power on the printer and then held the green button as it cycled thru the memory test. after the memory test completed, i was given a list of options, and i chose cold reset. after that the message went away.

How to output bin empty ?

  1. The output bin may be full. Empty the output bin. Printing resumes automatically.
  2. Take a close look at the flaps hanging out the exit of the printer. They should move up and down freely. If one of them is stuck up, broken or dislodged, then a bin full error is displayed.
  3. Open rear exit tray and power on the printer. If the printer comes to a Ready state, close rear tray and try printing.
  4. Clean the paper path below the toner area and exit assembly at the back of the printer. Ensure there is no pieces of paper stuck in the paper path of the printer.

Printer shows standard top bin full

Where the paper exits, there should be black tabs that lift up each time a page exits. They might be stuck in the up position, or possibly broken. Usually caused by aggressive removal of a paper jam.

That means that the output tray is filled to capacity, or one of the students broke the "bin full flag" at the top of the printer.

Standard top bin full remove all paper from bin

Check the sensor flag where the paper exits the printer and make sure it is not stuck in the "up" position. This is a small black plactic flap right in the center of where the paper exits. When this flap is up it tells the printer that this area is full. HP says to "flip" the sensor flag up and down to make sure it is not stuck.
Good Luck

Standard top bin full remove paper

Greets!

Firstly, is the exit bin full of paper? If it is, just remove it.

If not, then it's going to be a sensor that recognizes the paper amounts in the exit tray. Check for broken plastics and possibly stuck plastic flaps in the exit tray.

If it's neither of those, try turn it off, unplug, then reverse.

Other than that, if no go, then it's an internal sensor issue. At that point, probably the best bet is to replace as repair costs would outweight a new unit cost most likely.

Hp 3800dtn standard top bin full remove paper error

top bin full error is hte lever sensor where you see the paper coming out, the lever is stuck in the up position.

It's used to tell you to remove the paper from the exit because it's too full.( Too many copies on the top)
