Question about HP iPAQ RX3715 Pocket PC

1 Answer

Memory I've got a rx3715. Why is it that whenever you close a program by clicking the "OK" or "X" buttons the program continues to run in the background? Last night I tried to open a program and it said I didn't have enough memory. So I looked into how much memory was available and it was basically nothing. But when I looked under running programs, there were about 6 or 7 programs in there. They were all the programs I had previously used. Shouldn't the programs stop running when they are closed?

Your options: from time to time go to Running Programs and close what you're done with; or, as you're leaving a progran, check whether it has an Exit or Quit command; or, open iTask, tap and hold on the name of a program, and choose Close this Task from the pop-up menu; or, my favorite, use the on-screen keyboard and tap Control and then Q (upper or lowercase)--that'll work with almost any progran that accepts text input.

My hp pavillion dv6000 wont start normally. in safe mode will start but continues to request product key when i log in with my password.

It seems to be an issue with some software that is conflicting with the operating system. I would advise you to clear the start first. The steps below would help you clear the start up.

For XP:
  • Click on the start button(with the windows logo on it) on the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Click on Run.
  • A small pop up box would open at the bottom left corner above the start button.
  • In the dialogue box beside "Open : " type "msconfig" and hit enter.
  • System Configuration Utility would open.
  • On the top menu, identify and click on Start up.
  • Now, click on the button "Disable All", at the bottom right corner. This will disable all the start up programs. However, you will still be able to access all those programs from Start->All Programs.
  • Click on "Apply" and then click on Ok/Close. If "Apply" is grayed out, click on Ok/Close. If administrator password is prompted, click OK and proceed with the steps below.
  • You would see another pop box with 2 options, "Restart" and "Exit Restart" or "Restart Later". Do not worry, if you do not get this option.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Immediately after your computer restarts, you will see a pop box. In that box, CLICK TO CHECK THE RADIO BUTTON AND ONLY THEN CLICK ON OK.
  • If you forget this step, you will have to start over again.
  • Your computer should have now booted to normal mode.
For VISTA or Win 7:
  • Click on the Start button (with the windows logo on it).
  • Click on Start Search and type msconfig.
  • On the top, under programs, you will find a link for msconfig. Right click on msconfig and click on Run as administrator. Click on continue (in user account control box).
  • Your computer should have now booted to normal mode.
If you still face the same problem, you can download and install the BIOS update.

If any of the above steps do not work, then it could be an issue with windows updates and any other updates that might have created a conflict. In this case, restore the computer to an earlier date when it was working fine. For that, follow the steps below.
For XP:
  • Click Start.
  • Click Help and Support.
  • Type system restore in the Search box, and then press ENTER.
For Vista or Win 7:
  • Click Start vistastartbutton.jpg, type system restore in the Start Search box, and then click System Restore in the Programs list.
  • If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
  • In the System Restore dialog box, click Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.
  • In the list of restore points, click a restore point that was created before you began to experience the issue, and then click Next.
  • Click Finish.
Hope all this helps you.
Still if this does not work, then contact an expert who can help you with doing more troubleshooting on this in recovery environment. In recovery environment, we can try sfc /scannow and check /r.
Good luck.

I get a memory error whenever a Pogo games starts loading; then internet explorer closes. However, 2/3 of memory is free.

2/3 of your hard drive is free not memory. The memory can be freed up by going to start menu, run and type in msconfig

In this window, go to the startup tab and uncheck all programs that start with the computer. Click apply and then reboot.

Memory shortage is caused by alot of programs running in the background of your computer. Every single program you install, by default, runs in the background when your computer starts up. The method above will kill all programs from starting up and save you memory.

ERROR MESSAGES ON COMPUTER

Hi,

I just want to check with you - is that the full error message? Usually it's something like: "The instruction at '<address>' referenced memory at '<address>'. The memory could not be read." So, there might be an address missing. Also, what operating system are you using?

You might try running memtest86 to see if there's anything wrong with the physical memory in your system: http://download.cnet.com/Memtest86/3000-2086_4-10524193.html

You could also try this if you have IE7:

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. On the menu bar, choose Tools > Internet Options.
3. Click the Security tab.
4. Select the Internet zone and click the Custom Level button. The Security Settings window opens.
5. Scroll down to the Scripting section of Settings.
6. Under Allow paste operations via script, select Enable or Prompt.
7. Click OK to close the Security Settings window.
8. Click Yes when asked if you want to change security settings for this zone.
9. Click OK again to close the Internet Options window.

Window closing Problem

I think you have a bad memory chip or bad motherboard RAM bank.

You should do a RAM memory check. If you look in the EventViewer by going to Start | Run | and typing "eventvwr.msc". You may see events there that will indicate what and why.

Or, you can search for a Memory checker on the internet and use it to reboot and test your memory on bootup.

Rx3115 won't show close button

Jul 14, 2005 18:26:04 GMT unassigned Well, this isn't a solution, but rather a way to work with it until you find the solution. On my rx3715, I have something called iTask. I have a button I can press on the unit that brings it up, or I can go to Programs and tap on iTask. Once it's up, I can see which programs are running and close one or all of them. Another way, if you don't have iTask or something like it, is to use your memory settings to close programs. On mine, I go to Settings>Memory and then the Running Programs tab. From there I can "stop" any program. I know this doesn't solve the problem, but now at least you'll be able to close all those programs. For a solution, I'd try doing a soft reset. If that doesn't work, do a hard reset. Maybe someone else will have some better ideas.

Increasing Memory

The bad news is that many of the programs you might like to do away with are built into the ROM, and can't be deleted. The good news is that most programs will run perfectly well if installed on the storage card, so if you've got programs installed in main memory, you can realize some savings by running them from the storage card instead.. If you go that route, be sure to Remove the program from main memory and then re-install it to the storage card.
