You need to connect your computer hardwired initially. You Have to buy an ethernet cord (RJ45) to connect your portable to your router. Once you have done that, you should automatically have internet connection. You can download the driver of your wifi card and configure your wireless setup. Alternatively, you can use another computer/internet connection. If there is an internet cafe in your area, download the wifi driver from the Lenovo website and store it on a flash drive (USB drive). Plug it on your computer and run the file. The file is just an exe file. That means all you have to do is double click it and it will run. Just follow the prompts upon installation.
note: unfortunately the one available from the Lenovo site is just for XP. do inform me if you have a different operating system so that I can look for the driver link for you.

NOT CONNECTING TO WIFI

Try reinstalling the wireless driver.
The same model Lenovo can have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless you know exactly which one is installed in your Lenovo, you need to download all the drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver. When you download the drivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a record of which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files are located on your hard drive. Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows device drivers for your model computer, Use this link: - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true

My ibm g41 won't detect wireless networks in range. i'm four feet away from the router and i've got another computer connected to the network. same thing happened with another network at a...

The first thing you should check is make sure your WLAN switch is turned on. If this is off, you cannot detect any wireless networks. This switch is usually found either on the side of the computer near USB ports, or as a function of the Fn key usually around the F1-F4 keys.

If the WLAN switch is still turned on and you're having problems, run Windows Update and make sure there aren't any updates to your wireless drivers that may solve the problem.

If after running Windows Update you are still having problems, go here and download and install the driver under the heading "Networking: Wireless LAN". The correct driver to download in that section is the only one in the right hand column under the sub-heading "802.11a/b/g, 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter" and is from the 6th of October 2009. This driver may have been missing or corrupted on your computer and that will cause you to fail to find any wireless networks.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa!
