In some calculations i've done, maybe with integral with sin and cos stuff. i would get a @ sign along with the answer. what is it?

According to the TI-89 Guidebook:

This notation indicates an “arbitrary integer” that represents any integer. When an arbitrary integer occurs multiple times in the same session, each occurrence is numbered consecutively. After it reaches 255, arbitrary integer consecutive numbering restarts at @n0.

This notation indicates an “arbitrary constant” that represents any integer. When an arbitrary constant occurs multiple times in the same session, each occurrence is numbered consecutively. After it reaches 255, arbitrary integer consecutive numbering restarts at @0.

So it's the same concept, just a little different. It all depends if it is shown as @n1 or @1 where 1 can be any integer to 255

The 9750GII doesn't have symbolic capabilities so it can't give you a symbolic answer for this. It can evaluate it numerically at any point.

The derivative of sin(cos(x) dx is cos(cos(x))-sin(x).

The derivative of sin(cos(x) dx is cos(cos(x))-sin(x).

The trig functions depend on the angular mode. Make sure you have the proper one set.

If my last instructions did not work then you need to reset your RAM. You are missing the negative sign and, I have no idea where you got the absolute value inside the brackets.

Yes, the absolute value are used in books and, on integral tables but, I can asure you that the Ti 89 should not have produce them in this answer.

I'll stand behind that In( -cos(x) / (sin(x)-1)) is the correct answer. You can go ahead and simplify after the calculation to get the answer you want but, that is the good answer that Ti 89 is going to give you for the integral of sec(x).

Errors that do not match the suspected, I am pretty sure that Texas Instruments would have you clear the RAM. I do not like resetting the RAM but, I could not find the cause to why you got the answer you did. And so far no other expert has produced a solution to convince me otherwise.

I was not able to come up with any of the 3 answers MiB8888 did on my Ti 89. I am not saying that they are not good answers, they are book and integral tables answers. You are not going to get them on the Ti 89.

This is a trigonometry problem not a calculator's.

**cos(x) +tan(x).sin(x) = ( cos(x) + (sin(x)/cos(x)).sin(x)**. After reduction to the same denominator (which is cos(x)) you obtain

{cos(x).cos(x) + sin(x).sin(x)} divided by cos(x).

The content of the bracket above is just 1.

Your fraction will have 1 as numerator and cos(x) as denomitor. That is exactly the definition of the secant function i.e. Function**sec** is the **reciprocal** (not the inverse) of the **cos** function, while the **arccos **is the inverse of **cos**.

A mild advice: Avoid writing function without specifying the argument (the variable on which a function acts).

Note:

{cos(x).cos(x) + sin(x).sin(x)} divided by cos(x).

here are the steps in changing it from radian to degrees

1. turn on your TI-83 plus

2. press the MODE button near the top of your calculator

3.go down to options and move the highlight from radian to degree, press enter and clear

you're good to go
