Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

We have a GE Spacemaker 2.0 Over-The-Range Microwave Oven. It has power, and the keypad display appears to be normal at first glance. None of the keys or buttons are operational, however. In all cases, the display indicates that "control is locked." This is true even with the help button. Those present when the situation arose insist they did nothing unusual. How does one "unlock" the oven?

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

You will need your model number, which will be something like JVM1840WH01, etc.

You may need a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so then try again.

Microwave is locked up. Says Lock on screen and cannot get it to go away after hitting Clear several times. How do I get it off "lock" status?

HELLO.

GE manufactures various models of microwaves with a range of features.
Among them is a child safety feature that allows parents to lock the keypad. Though children can still open the door, the keypad lock prevents them from starting the microwave. The lock is in the form of a keypad code that renders the buttons inactive.

* 1 Press and hold the "Clear/Off" button on the microwave's keypad.
* 2 Hold the button down for three seconds.
* 3 Wait for the "L" on the keypad's display to disappear and display the time instead, signifying that the device is no longer locked.

Willing to help solve more problem.

Thanks.

GE Spacemaker Microwave, Model #JVM1540SN1SS, buttons don't work

The membrane keypad has failed.

The keypad itself is not available as a separate part, so the control panel frame with keypad would have to be replaced.

This is actually a pretty simple DIY job.

You can part number WB56X10826 from the Pros here for $114.62 plus shipping (that compares to $166.50 from GE!).

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams at that link.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then disconnect your keypad strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.

Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.

The keypad does not work. The display screen says "Press -----k". I'm assuming it's telling me to press clock to set time. But none of the keys work when I press any. Earlier only the Start/Pause key...

try powering down for 30 seconds. if that doesn't work the keypad is shorted or open. do not spray cleaner directly onto key pad when cleaning. it will short it out. rather spray cleaner onto a rag then wipe.

F3 flashing on display screen..no buttons work!

I have the same problem. However when I unplug the microwave from the wall outlet, let it sit for 10 seconds, then weird codes appear on the top line. Reset the clock and it shold work just fine.

GE Microwave Spacemaker over the range

It sounds like you may have either a defective keypad or control board.

Is the cottage kept heated in cold months?

Is there any rust on the microwave chassis underneath or on other appliances or surfaces inside the cottage?

This would be evidence that there is condensation settling on the controls or keypad of the oven.

We can normally repair a control panel assembly for $39.95 and if it needs a new keypad, that can add anywhere from $50-$100 to the total, depending on the part cost.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.
