Question about Samsung HT-X40 System

Unit is smoking and producing burning plastic smell.

My samsung HT-X40 home theater surround sound system started smoking and produced a strong odor of burning plastic. I noticed that the fan at the back of the unit had stopped, leading me to believe it is the problem.

I have had thesame problem...TWICE. I already sent it back while it was still under warranty, they repaired it for free, even extending the warranty and sent it back. Two months after the extended warranty expired, it started smoking again. I called them back and complained and get trransfered to an executive customer service agent. She extended my warranty again and said she would fix it again for free. I asked her what happens if it happens again, she said they wouldnt be able to extend the warranty for a third time, so if it happens again...we'll see.

Here's how I fixed mine:

I modded an old fan to have the same connector as the dead fan, and slapped that in. That ended up being loud and having a large buzz, in addition to not pushing much air. So, I cut a 120mm circular hole in the top of the case, removed the shroud over all the capacitors, put the case back on, mounted a slimline fan and made a nice little chimney setup. not pretty, but that means i don't have to buy a new receiver.

Short of that:
1. take it to a repair shop.
2. Buy a new receiver.

Samsung HTX715 will not play 5.1 surround sound from TV signal only works from DVDs any ideas, back speakers do not produce any sound

In any native or automatic sound mode the HT will only produce mutichannel sound from multichannel sources delivering a digital bitstream. Is that the case with the TV? The best source for TV related audio is from the source, usually the cable box. Read the manual.

HOME THEATER SAMSUNG HT-Q100

Your systemn is designed and built to perform 2.1 sound. If you want 5.1 sound you can do 2 things, connect another pair of speakers to the same speakerterminal as your front speakers, however this produces 5.1 stereo sound and not 5.1 surround sound.
You can buy a new system that has the proper connections.

This set will not have the proper decoding software to produce 5.1 surroundsound. sorry.
