You both have bad power supplies inside your PS3 units. If they are still under warranty you can get the units exchanged by Sony. If not you can sell for parts or repair yourself. If replacing the power supply yourself, you can find a great PS3 disassembly tutorial at www.llama.com You will only need to go as far as opening the unit and swapping the power supply with a new or used one that works. I hope this helps you both. Good luck and happy gaming!!

Note: How to reset video output settings
If you are attempting to change to an HDMI cable from a different video cable or if the video output settings do not match those required for the display in use, the screen may stay black. If the screen stays black for more than 30 seconds, you may need to reset the video output settings of the PS3.

To reset video output settings:

  1. Turn the PS3 system off by holding the Power button on the front of the console till you see the power light turn red.
  2. Then hold the power button on the front of the console for at least five seconds until you hear a second beep to turn the system on again. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.

Minimum Requirements

  • PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system
  • SIXAXISTM wireless controller (and USB cable)
  • AC power cord
  • HDMI cable1 (sold separately)
  • TV or display monitor with HDMI port and capable of displaying picture in HD resolution
  • Updated system software installed on your PS3
Visit PS3 System Software Update to download and install the most recent version.
  • TV "Input" or "Video" channel for the HDMI port
You need to know the TV "Input" or "Video" channel for the HDMI port on your TV. For instance, if your TV has multiple "Input" or "Video" channels, (i.e., "Input 1", "Input 2", "Input 3", etc.), you will need to toggle through each "Input" channel on your TV until you find the correct channel that displays the HDMI picture. This is important to remember, especially if you do not see the HDMI picture after you connect the cable and configure the PS3 settings. Please refer to the TV instruction manual for more information.

Hi. My PS3 suddenly started turning off randomly in the middle of play (grrrrrrr) but I know its not overheating since the red light didn't flash and there was beeping. It just died. No joke. Does anyone...

There could be an issue with the power cord or the power outlet.

Try to get a replacement cord and plug the PS3 into another outlet. Turn on the PS3, and let it sit on the menu screen for a while. If it does not shut down it means that it was a power issue.

I have checked all three inputs into the wii unit; the power cord, the sensor bar cord, and the rca cords (all three) and I still can't get the wii to come on. The wii power cord shares the same plug as...

The sensor bar cable and the RCA cable can be ignored for this problem. In fact, just disconnect them and go with just the power cable. If you are getting power to your Wii, it will display a green power light on the front when you power it on without the sensor bar or the RCA cable plugged in. (It should also display an orange light when it is off, if it is getting power from the outlet.) Take the Wii into another room with working outlets and plug it in. Attempt to power it on with the power button on the Wii, and with a working Wii remote. If neither will power the Wii on, try borrowing a Wii power cable from a friend, or purchase a replacement. If the new power cable does not fix the problem, see if the Wii is still under warranty and send it in for repair.

MY PLAYSTATION 3 DON'T WANT TO TURN ON A RED LIGTH

hello,

Is the power not working on your PS3 This can be a frustrating occurrence, especially if your PS3 was working properly before. While there are a number of reasons why this might occur, there are two common ones -- the use of a non-licensed or genuine AC adapter, or a failed AC Adapter on your PS3 On very rare occasions, the power supply adapter on your PS3 may requiring the entire PS3 unit may need to be replaced.

However, before get too worried about that -- let's try a few basic troubleshooting procedures to try and diagnose the issue. PS3 guide on this problem is fairly comprehensive and has some good content, so I have included that below. In addition, you will want to check that following common issues before moving forward.
1. Check and make sure your cables are properly plugged in. This may sound silly, but sometimes they can become loosened causing bad power connections. Best to check before you spend much time troubleshooting.
2. Does the power strip or wall outlet that your are plugging the PS3 into have power? Make sure you can plug in other devices into that same outlet to verify there is not an issue with either the power strip or the wall outlet.
3. Make sure there is adequate ventilation. Although it is covered below, it is best to make sure there is several inches of free space at the back of the PS3 to provide good air circulation to the PS3 so it does not overheat.
Here is the PS3 information on trying to troubleshoot power problems on a PS3:
1. Make sure that the model number "RVL-002 (USA)" molded into the AC adapter. Unlicensed products are not fully compatible and may not work
correctly.
Hope this will help...

My son plugged the wrong power cord into Sony Playstation. now when he plugs the right cord in nothing happens. Is there a fuse or something that can be replaced?

is it the power cord i assume ? make sure the little flip power switch above the power cord is in on position. and u should have steady red light on front of ps3 when unit has power on. using a different power cord should not affect it but its not recommended . most ps3 uses a standard power cable.

Playstation not receiving power

This could be a problem with your AC power cord, try these fixes. If they do not work you ca contact sony at:

www.us.playstation.com/Support/PS3
or
www.uk.playstation.com/help-support/ps3

  • The console might not be turned on. Turn on the console using the main power switch on the back of the console.
  • Make sure the AC power cord is securely connected.
  • Visually inspect the AC power cord for damage. Do not use if frayed, cut, or damaged in any way.
  • Confirm the wall power outlet is active (receiving power). Try a different power outlet.
  • If possible, test the power cord by connecting it to a different PLAYSTATION 3.
  • If possible, try another AC power cord on your PLAYSTATION 3.
  • If you experienced a power surge, shortage, or a lightning storm in your geographical area recently, this may have affected the PLAYSTATION 3 power supply and the PLAYSTATION 3 may need service.
  • Make sure the vents are not obstructed in anyway.
  • Make sure there is adequate ventilation for the PLAYSTATION 3. There should be at least four (4) inches of clearance between the air vents on the system and any walls, televisions, entertainment centers, etc. Otherwise the unit may not function properly due to what are actually environmental issues.

    1. First check the power cable by removing it and then plugging it in again. You may find it is not pushed in far enough.

There should be at least four (4) inches of clearance between the air vents on the system and any walls, televisions, entertainment centers, etc. Otherwise the unit may not function properly due to what are actually environmental issues.
    I hope this helped

PS3 starts but wont turn on

you could have a problem with your power cord which is causing your ps3 to short before the system can power on fully. try using a different power cord or check the ports of both the outlet and the ps3 to make sure there is nothing blocking anything. also, try using a different outlet.

    Ps3 no power

PS3 unit has fuses that probably failed. I wouldn't void the warrenty to try and change them yourself but this would be the place to start if you take it in for repair.
