Make sure the little plastic piece is not sticking. It is located on the far side of the drive it is really small and it may be broke or just stuck in the inward position

Cd drive door won't stay shut

This is an indication that the CD-drive is detecting that the inserted disk is not FULLY inserted.
If it is fully inserted, and it is mis-reporting the condition, then spend $35 to purchase a replacement CD/DVD reader/writer.

I have a Gateway 5200X that just stopped working. When I plug it into a power source the light comes on and the fans start running and within 15-20 seconds it shuts off

Take out the battery and only hook up the AC Adapter. Then try turning it on. If that doesn't do it try just one memory stick at a time in each slot one at a time and turn on the laptop after each reseat.

If those steps don't work then take out the DVD drive and turn on the unit. If that still doesn't work then go ahead and take out the hard drive. If the machine stays on then you know the hard drive is the culprit. If the laptop still turns off then that means the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

DVD Drive door will not always open. No obstructions. DVD Drive light flashes, but door will not open. Is ther some software conflict?

The door drive motor may be frozen.
  1. Shut down the computer and unplug it.
  2. Open the computer casing to access the DVD drive from inside.
  3. Disconnect the cable on the DVD drive leaving only the power supply connected to it.
  4. Turn on the computer.
  5. Push the OPEN/CLOSE button on the DVD drive. If it does not open, the drive is broken or the door drive motor is defective. If it opens, push the button repeatedly to open and close the door repeatedly to release any frozen part.
  6. If the door does not stuck anymore, shut down the computer.
  7. Reconnect the cable and turn on the computer.

I have a Gateway 300x Micro-Tower case circa 2002 and I can not open the case, without breaking it. I'm trying to install a new audio card and can't get at the 300x innards. Help!

Most of these towers are vertical style, therefore the big button is just to the left of the Gateway symbol. Push it in and pull the left panel away from the case.

My disc will not load nor will it stay in the computer. the door keeps opening

May sound daft, but are you trying to load/use a DVD in a CD drive? My laptop at work is a CD Rewriter only, and I'm always trying to burn DVD's on it. Unsurprisingly, it spits them out....

My Acer Aspire 5610 dvd player will not stay shut. How do I investigate ?

I have now managed to remove the DVD tray. The single retention screw was under the panel hiding the main processor.
I am hoping to swap the tray for a slot version.

Toshiba laptop A130/A135

Try this disconnect laptop from power, remove latop battery. Wait ten mins and connect everything back.

If the problem is that dvd is stuck inside use a pin or a staple , stick it into the emergency opening hole until it opens the door on dvd drive on laptop.
