My lenovo g560 randomly shut down

Sounds like your taxing your system too hard. Perhaps you need to purchase a beefy-er CPU, graphics card, or cooling fan.

Factory reset lenovo g580

Step 1:
There are a variety of reasons you may need to reboot a Lenovo laptop. These can include the installation of a new program, the dreaded blue screen of death or to free up memory that has been hijacked by a program that is now closed. There are three ways to reboot and all are simple to accomplish.

Click on your start menu button on your screen. Click on "Shut Down" or "Turn Off Computer." Click on the drop down box if you are running a version of Windows before XP (such as 2000 or 98). Select the "Restart" option and then click "OK." On XP or later versions, click on "Restart." The laptop will then reboot. Press and hold down the "Alt," "Ctrl" and "Shift" keys simultaneously. This will bring up the Task Manager. Pressing and holding the same keys again will force the computer to shut down. Press the power button to reboot the computer. This feature should be used when the mouse has stopped working and you cannot access the start button. Hold the power button in the "Off" position for approximately 5 seconds. This will force the machine to shut down. Press or slide the button again to reboot the laptop. Use this process when you get the "blue screen of death" or the computer is not responding to either the mouse or the keyboard.

this might sound a bit silly but if the fan is not running to keep it cool it will keep shutting down.try and blow away any dirt or dust that might be stopping the fan from running.

I have a lenovo g550. when i put it to sleep, after several minutes he shuts himself down... do you have any idea how to fix that?

Hi blue_eyes_ca,

Do you mean that your system is not able to turn on after sleepmode and you need to push power button in order for it to turn on again?

If this is the case, you're system is actually not shutting down. The system is just having hard time turning on the system after sleep mode and this is because of the hard disk rotation being stopped.

You need to go to the Energy/Power management to change this setting to never.

Here's how:

1. Go to Start, select All Programs
2. Look for Lenovo Folder and expand the folder
3. Then select Enery/Power Management
4. The Energy/Power Management tool will open
5. Click on the mechanical icon and the settings will pop-up
6. Go to the system tab and change settings for "Stop Harddisk rotation" to Never
7. Save and Exit

Kindly observe the computer and see if it works. If my solution is not able to resolve your issue, please call Lenovo Warranty Support at 1877-453-6686 or 1877-737-1083 for OOW system.

Thank you for using Fixya,

While working on Lenovo y530 --just stops working--screen black --wont turn on again-- computer is not 2 years old--has been to Lenovo for replacement of touchpad ==came back w all my data erased. I...

that's exactly what happened with my Toshiba m35 back in 2008. See if the LEDs blink at all and the CPU fan spins when you try to turn the laptop on. If they do show signs of life and then shut down after a few seconds then probably your Lenovo suffers from the infamous Maxim chip failure. Read through the detailed description of my Toshiba Maxim chip failure and check to see if your laptop has all the symptoms.
The solution is to either get a new motherboard (about $350), or try to resolder the maxim chip, which is not all that difficult as it sounds. You can take the motherboard to a TV repair shop and ask them to resolder it with a regular soldering iron. It's a 5 minute job for an experienced repair technician.

Lenovo laptop shutdown suddenly after working for a while

Hi James, replace the fan or If it's still under warranty have it serviced. Suggest you stop turning it on until the fan is replaced. It could be the fan cooling the CPU. You don't want it to fry.
The shut down process is normal when over heating is detected by the system.

Good luck!
