Question about GE Profile WPSR3120WWW

1 Answer

GE Profile Washer will not spin. I can turn the motor with my hand and the tub spins, but it will not spin on its own. I was told it has windings in the motor that are probably worn out. I did smell a burning witch I thought was the belt but it is fine. Any help would be great. If it is the motor would I be better off replacing the machine?

You don't say if it makes any noise or tries to spin. The most common reason a GE washer will not spin is that the water level tube has a bunch of goo in it. When the washer pumps out, the air does not escape past the goo, and the washer thinks it is still full of water, and thus it will not send power to the motor to spin.
Pop the front off the machine with a putty knife at the front top seam and pull the clear tube off the left front side of the outer tub. Usually it is easiest to just cut off the first inch of the tube (where the goo is) and reattach, however you may want to clean the tube end and the hollow nipple it attaches to with a thin wire. This problem is seen most often with consumers who rarely if ever use liquid bleach. If you don't use bleach very often, filling to the lowest water setting with the hottest water possible, and a strong concentration of liquid bleach, then running the washer through a cycle (no clothes) every 6 month or so should prevent the problem from reoccouring. PS: motor cost runs about $200.

GE washer won't spin

Sounds like it needs a new motor. Electric motors can develop bad spots on their coils. What happens is they begin to work intermittently or only when hit. This is the same problem with a cars starter motor. Probably a pretty easy fix, just unplug the power to the washer for safety and pull it out and get a part number off the motor assembly then order up a new motor. If you have a multimeter and are comfortable working around live AC voltage to can see if power is being sent to the motor at the power connector.

Spin cycle trips house circuit breaker on my GE top loading washer

Hello,

The very likely reason the breaker trips only on spin is because the tub bearing is locked up on the washer since it is locked up its causing way excessive friction at the motor which causes the breaker to trip. Can you rotate the tub by hand or does it seem really hard to rotate by hand indicating that the tub is ceased up due to the tub bearing??

My GE washer won't spin or agitate

check the motor capacitor if your motor doesn't turn when powered, otherwise the "wig-wag"coil could be faulty, these coils shift your transmission for different cycles

Will not drain and spin.

check to lid switch is working.
if so, then you will need to take the washer cover off, jumper the lid switch and washer the motor as it trasntions from agitiation to rinse/spin. If the motor is turning but the tub is not, then you have a clutch problem or gearbox problem. Some times the clutch gets greased up and starts to slip, inspect closely. This mean you will need to that the water pump off, motor to see the clutch

GE washer model WHDSR209

On some models, the drive motor is universal meaning the drive turns clockwise in wash mode and turns counter clockwise in spin mode.
Possibly the motor windings is defective for the wash mode and thus the entire drive motor will require replacing.
Hope this helps..

Drain pump starts and stops prior to final spin cycle

Jayron, is the motor jogging? start to spin, stop, start to spin stop. If so, your motor is jogging between the high and low start windings. The motor during spin should start on the high speed windings and stay there until most of the water is drained. GE came out with a new motor, harness and run cap because of this. If you have a meter, there should be a white and white/red wire going to the motor. If you have a steady 120V and it's doing this jogging, replace the motor with the kit...Let me know if this the issue, Catriver..post back.
