RESET POWER ON PASSWORD

The BIOS pwd last time I checked could not be reset. You would have to contact the Toshiba Support and they may have another work around for the BIOS password. This is used commonly as an anti theft measure.

I have a virus on my emachines laptop E528 Series and it wants the password to the hard drive before I can fix it. I can't remember the password. What can I do?

Unfortunately, when a hard drive password is assigned, either accidently or not, there is no way to get pass that lock. We have even tried swapping the control board from an eact same harddrive, doing a sector by sector wipe, all to no avail. If you cannot remember or know the password, the harddrive will have to be replaced.

You then tell them your service tag/serial number, they enter it in a equation which parses the number and tey will give you a one time use password "

Power on password

HI,

Please see below for instructions on reset the BIOS password on your old Tecra.

  • Download KeyDisk from http://www.cgsecurity.org/keydisk.exe
  • Format a 1.44MB floppy disk and leave in your floppy drive
  • RunKeyDisk, this will create a special floppy disk to reset your laptop password.
  • Insert this disk into your Tecra laptop and reboot, the laptop should find the disk, boot from it and ask you for a password, press ENTER at this prompt and it will ask you for a new password.
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to ask

I have a ibm thinkpad t20 and when the internal battery died the computer started asking for a password when booting up. I know how to reset the password on a desktop but this thinkpad has me stumped. Can...

Hi,

the default BIOS password for this model is merlin but if that doesn't work you have a hard drive password set and may for lack of a better term be screwed. You can try zero wiping the harddrive from another system assuming you have the right cabling/adapters.

If the Hardrive is locked but the BIOS password works you can also acquire a new hard drive cheaper than a password cracker in most cases.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

I'm not clear on your description, so here goes:

If it showed the Toshiba start screen, then asked for a password, then your hard drive is password protected.

If it showed the Toshiba screen, then asked for password, and you entered it, and then it goes "insert disk", then your hard drive is passworded and wiped.

If the first thing it does is ask for a password, then the password is in the BIOS.

Well here is the thing...

Hello

it sounds like your harddrive may have corrupted files to troubleshoot this, you will have to unplug the harddrive and see what kind of message it gives you.

Thankyou
