My PC wont start

Hi ya guys,
I was wondering if you could help. The problem that I have is whenever I try to turn on my PC it won't go past the boot up page and then just powers off. I've been told this may be a mother board problem but would like some more advise.

Many Thanks.
J

I would first check the cmos watch type CR2032 battery on the motherboard, as it may be the problem being flat causing a reboot loop

My dell xp won't go past the xp flag

Hi Brittany,

If you are not able to boot up into Windows you will have to try the following before attempting the previous solution I posted to you concerning a system restore:
  • Switch on your PC and wait until you see something on the screen.
  • Press F8 on your keyboard repeatedly until your screen shows you a menu with various options
  • Scroll down the list of options using your arrow keys and select the option: 'Last known good configuration"
  • Press 'Enter' and wait for your PC to boot into Windows
Once you have achieved this, follow my previous instructions for doing a system restore. This should recover your Windows to it's previous state before everything went wrong.
Let me know if this solves your problem or if I can assist you more.
Thanks,
Graemevm

I have Acer 1200 Aspire. When I turn it on, it won't proceed past the initial window. It says boot failure.

It almost sounds like your primary boot disk is incorrectly selected in the BIOS. On older machines, the primary disk on the primary cable had to be the boot disk, but nowadays almost any device can be selected as boot disk. Check your BIOS setting and ensure that the hard disk partition that you have Windows installed on is selected as the first boot device. Otherwise, the system may be looking in the wrong place for the OS and giving the boot error.

Dell dimension 5150 wont boot past post. I've tried afew things but nothing works. can you help? thanks

If it won't go past POST then there is a hardware error. Try removing the hard drive and RAM. The mother board should complain at power on giving messages. If it does, try fitting the RAM module by module, then the hard drive.

File missing

HI,

1. START> RUN > type CMD > now paste the following reg add
“HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon” /v Shell /t REG_SZ /d Explorer.exe

this procedure is to remove the error that comes whenever you restart windows
something like “could not find SSVICHOSST” or “error loading SSVICHOSST” or “windows cannot find ssvichost”

PC not booting when AVERmedia TV tuner card is inserted

Techguru2009: Seems you might have a conflict with your I/O. You need to reset the bios either by loading defaults or just remove the CMOS battery for ten minutes. After start the computer without the pci card. If all is well, then shutdown. insert the card in a different slot on the motherboard. Power up and the bios should recognize the update. Hope this helps.

The first thing you should do is swap the power supply for a known good one,
If this is a new build that hasn't worked from the start follow the instructions here:
