Question about LaCie d2 Extreme (300793U) 500 GB Hard Drive

My 500GB LaCie will not power up

I hope it is just a power issue. When i tried to turn it back on the other day i got nothing, no sound or blue light, it may have been plugged into a similar looking plug for a different brand of hard drive, but i'm not sure, now that i have tried plugging it in with what i am sure is the correct power supply i still get the same results.

yes external but not powered by usb. it has the 4 pin power supply.

I have the same exact problem. One day it turned on, the next day it would not. I heard the power supply circuitry is poorly made from China. Other sites say to trash the box, buy another (not LaCie) and put your two hard drives in it.

If there is a way to fix the power to the hard drives, I would like to know and save me from buying another box.

Same problem. LaCie tech support says it's the power supply, but clearly isn't because d2 dvd-rw uses same power supply and the results on the d2 BigDisk are the same -- nada -- no matter which one I use.

plug the power supply in (AC->DC converter light comes on.) and all other connections are all in. no power.

  • cschwenn Sep 19, 2008

I got a new power supply too. Interesting in that when the power supply isn't connected to the drive, the green light on the converter is solid green, but when it's plugged in to the drive, the light flashes rapidly. I doubt it means anything, but if it helps someone deduce what's going on, that'd be great.

Both drives spin up and the blue light is on steady but does not mount on desktop. I tried all the ports on 2 computers with new power source. nogo... I used it less then 10 times. Of course, the last time I used was a day after the warranty expired.

mine is plugged in, doesnt power up. it randomly did power on the other day, but now it doesnt. tried giggling it, clicking the power button... what a piece of ****. Do not buy Lacie hard drives, they ****, lacie sucks. how i have to buy an external case and open it up.. ug. what a pain. bad review. bad google keywords. broken lacie. lacie sucks. should i buy a lacie hard drive. dont. okay im done.

I also have the problem. I used a power supply from a different external and the light flashed blue. I figured it must be some compatibility issue so i searched and finally found the correct lacie power supply and although the green light on the power supply is on, the drive seems to receive no power at all. Then i switched back to the supply i used first and now nothing happens.

I should preface this by saying that i went to turn on my lacie external hard drive (500gb) and it wouldnt turn on, i tried a few times before noticing that the chord was unplugged, anyways once i fixed...

Clicking on hard drives always makes me nervous so you may want to back up the data on your drive to be safe.

You should review this post as it looks like you may be experiencing the same problem. It sounds like this is a common issue with LaCie drives and is related to the power supply.

Doesn't work

am not so sure if this is a similar issue with iomega2_bing.gif external drive in which the drive wont show up on My Computer but when the external drive was plugged into an ubuntu machine the drive was being detected and working just fine.

Please try to do the same. plug your external drive to an ubuntu machine and lets see if it can be detected. If it is then the hard disk has a similar issue with iomega drives. check this link for the solution.

I just tried to connect my LaCie 500GB to my computer to back up some photos and music. it's not recognized on my computer, and there's a faint ticking sound coming from the LaCie. What should i do?

It sounds like the power supply is going out. I have seen this problem before. The best thing to do is take the drive out of the case and install it in another case. We have been using a model from Eagle that works great. We have more information at the following link:

I have a IMac version 10.5.5. Connected to it is a 500GB D2 Quadra HD ESATA FW800/400 USB Lacie. All of a sudden one day the icon on the desktop is no longer there. I've shut off the computer, turned...

Try this again, shut everything down and take out all power cables.

Leave for a minute.

Put all the power cables back in and power everything back up, Mac first then the Lacie.

If this doesn't work, try going to disk utilities with the drive plugged in and see if the drive icon if displayed on the left. If it is you should be able to highlight it and click "mount"

Is my LaCie External USB 2.0 500GB fried/dead???

You're not missing any step at all, because with SATA hard drive if its really working your computer should
automatically detect it and since this hard drive suddenly stop working there's a possibility that its already
fried but if you want you can try this hard drive again to a different computer and if still not detected by
second computer its already dead.........

Power Adaptor for 500GB LaCie P3 HD USB 2.0 7200RPM 8MB USA?

Both power adaptors are 4 pin, ITHINK that the Porsche that you have is the same as mine which has the smaller (4 pin DIN) plug 34W power supply.
But check on LaCie's site:
Hope this helps.

Lacie hard drive nonfunctional

I ran into this issue this week with my lacie big disk 500G external. Unit would power on when plugged into a pc blue light would flash and nothing no connection ding from windows.
Blue front light would flash repetedly slight ticking sound from drives but no connection i finally fixed this and gained access to my data by opening up the case and pluging my pc 12v connectors into both drives to power them up but leaving them connected to the lacie internals worked instantly and ive since copyed all my data off my 500 and will just transplant the drives to internal use on my pc. you cannot connect the drives internally and then copy the data due to the fact that they are raid 0 stripped drives so this hybrid setup works if your external case isnt powering up the drive correctly as mine wasnt.

LaCie drive does not come on

Maybe the usb chip in the hard drive enclosure that converts ide into usb failed. You could replace the enclosure (they sell enclosures at best buy) but it could be quite a hassle.
