Garmin forerunner 305 - battery replacement

The solution to get the case open worked great, Thank you. I am having trouble finding a battery. Locally they all tell me to go to Garmin. On the net, ebay etc, I can find lots of 3.7V 750 mAh batteries for cell phones etc but I don't know which one will fit. Any help with part numbers or suppliers would be a great help.

Cheers, Dennis

Had the same problem. Turned out I only *thought* it was the cradle and/or cable being finicky. Actually, the problem was one of the four contact points on the back of the 305 had oxidized and if all 4 don't make good contact with the cradle, it won't charge. Apparently, manipulating the cable only coincidentally helped, if/when it did help, perhaps by subtly shifting the contact point so that a less oxidized part made contact.
Anyway, rubbing the contact points with a pencil eraser cleans them enough to get a good charge. I've had to break out the eraser every 2-4 weeks.

Automotive silicon/gasket maker.

Use a tooth pick to put a VERY small amount of silicon around the entire seam. Put the two half's together and wrap tightly with electrical tape. Test the unit immediately to see if it powers on and off. If it does not open it back up and raise the small prongs that make the connection from the bottom half to the top half.
If any silicon squishes out the sides wipe with water and a rag.
Let the unit sit over night. In the morning remove the tape.

Yes you can. Go to the Garmin Website and simply email them asking for the price of the battery and instructions on how to replace your specific model and serial number as they changed in mid year many times.

Well it is an accumulator instead of a battery so just recharge it.
If the accumulatoris gone I think you have to use the garmin support

Battery doesen't keep the charge. I can't open the case to change battery forerunner 305

Hi Samdot,

I have just been through a similar problem through ingress of water into the device (They are not in the slightest bit water proof)

My device would power on, but only in the cradle attached to the usb and it would say the battery was fully charged after 4 seconds.

Any way, the battery can be replaced using the following method.
Take a decent, thin penknife and gently lever the top off the Garmin (follow the crease above the buttons). There are no catches to be aware of it is just lightly glued.

Once the lid is off you will be able to remove the two circuit boards (they just sit in there) and you will see the battery in the bottom of the case.

Unscrew the two small screw above the battery connections and you will be able to replace the li-ion battery which is in place.

I can provide images if that would be useful.

Make sure the small prong under the battery is bent out a bit, sounds like an intermittened connection problem.
