I'm trying to set up a password for my dlink DIR-412. However, it seems that the default IP address I see on the internet is not working. Please help.

Yes apparently the DIR 412 comes with a reset button on the back which will restore it back to factory settings (the settings it came with originally) There's details on the reset procedure in the routers manual, if you haven't got one here's a link to an online manual for it: ftp://files.dlink.com.au/products/DIR-412/Manuals/DIR-412_A1_Manual_v1.10(I).pdf You'll want the troubleshooting section near the back of the manual.

You need to log into the dlink router and look at the Wireless Security and you will see the password. To get into the router you will need the ip address of the router, the default user id and the password. You manual will give you this info if you do not know it.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Dlink Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Look for Manuals.

The IP address to put in your browser to get into the router is: 192.168.0.1

The default userid is: admin

There is not default password, so leave it blank.

Reset your router back to it's factory settings by holding the reset button for about 5 seconds.
I have provided a list of the most popular router brands. If it does not work you may need to
google what your specific model's default IP address/default username/default passwords are, for
example search for "Encore ENHWI-2AN3 default IP address" The default login info can change, it
can depend on where you obtained your router. If you purchased it yourself from a store then the
standard defaults should work. If you obtained your router from your Internet Provider you may
need to contact your service provider. It also may depend whether it's an old or new model router
as well. And you may need to press and hold the reset button on your router several times before
it actually clears. Make sure you have a wired connection then once you have accessed your router simply run the Setup Wizard. Set your SSID as something you'll remember like "Mavericks Network" and your Password can be something like your phone number for example 3109876543

It's common for us to forget passwords the problem is when you need them:) It is simple to correct this problem but you need to connect directly to the router via a hardwire (ethernet cable). If you haven't changed the default IP setting on the router your going to do the following. Through your Internet Browser your going to type in the IP address of the Dlink router in the address bar. This default IP is 192.168.0.1 You will be prompted for username and password. By default that is Admin and password blank (nothing). Once logged in you will choose from the Dlink menu Setup then Wireless Settings. At this point keep it simple use the wireless wizard to re-create a new passprase for your WPA. By the way update your laptop as well. Some old wireless drivers don't work properly with WPA passprase and make it apprear your passphrase is incorrect when its fine. Good Luck.

If you haven't modified the password the default password should be in the manual. If the default password doesn't work, you should be able to hard reset the device by pressing a button on the back with a paperclip and then log in with the default password.

Step 1: Open your web browser and type in the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1 by default).



Step 2: Enter the username (admin) and password (blank by default), and then click Ok or Log In .



Also:
Step 1 Log into the web-based configuration by typing in the IP address of the router (default:192.168.0.1) in your web browser. The username is admin (all lowercase) and the password is blank (nothing).

Note: The address 192.168.0.1 is NOT on the Internet. The web-based configuration is built-in to the router.
Step 2 Click the Home tab and click the WAN button. Dynamic IP Address is the default value, however, if Dynamic IP Address is not selected as the WAN type, select Dynamic IP Address by clicking on the radio button. Click Clone Mac Address. Click on Apply and then Continue to save the changes.
Step 3 Power cycle the cable modem and router:

• Turn the cable modem off (first)
• Turn the router off
• Leave them off for 2 minutes**
• Turn the cable modem on (first)
• Wait until you get a solid cable light on the cable modem
• Turn the router on
• Wait 30 seconds

please consider that the modem Software is just for first configuration for accessing the internet or configuring the wireless setup and change its password or other configurations.so normally you don't need to install that software if you have internet connection.
so if you want to configure or change its settings then try to access it from its built in website,

1-you changed the configuration before:
then for finding its website address try to look at "Default gateway" on your computer or your mobile wifi settings (this is your modem address. the address is the IP address and it is look like 192.168.1.1 (you can type "ipconfig /all" in windows command prompt or "ifconfig -l" in Linux based systems or goto your wifi settings on your mobile devices and see the "default gateway". then after finding the address try to type it on your Firefox,Chrome,Edge,internet explorer address bar)

2-you don't change it yet:
then normally its address is like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 and mark it normally by the manufacturer on the bottom of you modem lable
after opening the website you should consider the default user name and password is (if you didn't change it before):
username:admin
password:admin
or
usermane:admin
password:1234

Hi Joe,

With a dsl system you need to set the router up to your dsl account using your username and password. Login to your router set-up page. By default this can be done by typing 192.168.0.1 into the address bar of any web browser. Once you login click the setup tab on the top and then click manual configure. In the drop down box pick PPPoE and then move down to the next section. If you have a static IP address then click that radio button otherwise it should be defaulted at dynamic ip. Enter in the username and password that was provided to you by your internet service provider. Select the Always On radio button and then click save settings at the top of the page.
