Is this an OEM install of Vista or an upgrade. Several legacy sound cards, especially the integrated Realtek cards have had compatibility issues with Vista. Some of these can be resolved with a firmware update, some can't.

No Sound

Every time Windows update runs, or a device or program is installed/uninstalled, there's a chance one or more of your sound drivers may become outdated or corrupt, resulting in "no sound". Note: Most manufacturers provide free driver downloads on their official website(s). However, these sites are confusing for even the most experienced technician, and there's a risk that the wrong drivers may be installed onto your system. Installing a wrong or outdated driver can crash your computer. go to driverboost.com to download.hope it helps.
In just 2 minutes, DriverBoost locates the exact, most up to date sound drivers for your system and connected devices. No guess work, no hassles, and more importantly, no risks of installing the wrong driver and harming your computer. With regular scans, DriverBoost will notify you of any and all device driver updates to ensure your computer runs at peak performance!
Run DriverBoost, to automatically update your sound drivers and fully restore PC sound in 2 minutes

Hi.

Yes you should install the chipset driver first. It is always the first one to install on a freshly installed Windows.

I don't know if it is where you got your drivers but compaq.com will provide everything you need by choosing your laptop model in the support page.

Hope this helps!

Pick via unknown @ intel 82801gb ich7 - high definition audio controller [a-1] pci to your hard drive how can i get a driver for this

Go to your Mainboard manufacturers' site, and download

1. The mainboard chipset, then install to your PC.
2. The audio/drivers drivers and Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio. Sometimes the (UAA) is incorporated with Sound drivers itself.

Installing high definition audio Drivers for windows.
**Take Note.
If the audio/sound drivers and Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) are separate files, you have to install the UAA files first before the installing audio/sound drivers files or your sound drivers will not be install properly.

You have not mention what OS or what type of mainboard, brand, name... you are using.

Hope it helps.

Sound driver problem

Just un-install and reinstall your sound driver. Use your support CD accompanying your system. If you got an assembled PC install the motherboard CD. And if you are using a seperate sound card do install the sound card driver CD. You can also try downloading the latest driver from the internet.
