GE Profile Artica Refrigerator

Our refrigerator is about 4 years old. The freezer and refrigerator has stopped working. It did start working again, after it was left unplugged for a couple of days, but quit again.

Thanks for you help.

GE Profile stainless top freezer w/ external water and ice dispenser in freezer door. Gradually reaches point where food in freezer thaws, and refrigerator section gets too warm. After thorough manual defrost, fridge works well for a couple of weeks then problem begins again. Need to know location of defrost timer and coils. Can one over-ride the timer and turn ON the defrost cycle? Thanks.

I had the same problem. We just got it repaired yesterday and found out that it has two motherboards, one of which went out. We were lucky that it was only one of the boards and not the second board and the compressor (which still may go out). From my understanding this is a common problem, and I am trying to find out if there was some kind of recall and any notice to the consumer?

OK, it sounds like you have a defrost problem. When left unplugged for a few days the frost melted off the evaporator (the cooling coils behind the freezer wall) but after you ran it again, the coils blocked the air flow again, usually happens after a week or so, depending on # of door openings, humidity in home, etc. Most likely you have a burnt out defrost heater.

Temperature in refrigerator will not stay set. It keeps getting colder. I have a GE Artica model PSS27SGMD. It is a side by side with ice through the door. It is +- 9 years old

GE Artica had problems with the "Motherboards" originally installed. They have since switched manufacturers so my educated guess that is the problem.

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

Making a clicking noise and not cooling

This could be a relay on the control board or the compressor is short cycling or both. You can use my assistance to help you resolve this or call a technician, this depends on you. I am very familiar with the Artica/Profile and know that if you can follow instructions and use a test meter we can get this fixed. I would like your complete model number so I can refer to the exact model you have. I will leave you contact information and a service manual and a web page to use with the diagnostics. This problem will not get better, Sea Breeze

My GE refrigerator artica is not getting cold. The fan works, but it appears the compressor is not activating. The refrigerator is only 7 years old.

OK the Artica is complex in that a failure with the compressor not starting can be a series of effects that return to the mother board. I can from this end help you solve and or eliminate the problem with one on one cumunication. Most likely if the compressor is not starting the problem is a chain reaction of problems that have lead to this. I you would like my assitance let me know. But to give a simple answer for the Artica/Profile is not possible for even the best, Sea Breeze

My freezer (ge artica) temperature goes up to 40%, then cools dow

The main problem with the Artica/Profile is that they have a main control board and a thermostat board inside the fresh food compartment. I have a repair manual and will send you a copy if you want but we are going to have to look at the control boards for burn marks. Let me know if you need me. Thanks, Sea Breeze
