My ge side by side refrigerator is make a louse noise and the temperture keeps going up

The freezer is probably all iced up, and the ice it hindering the fan blade.

Turn the unit off, take all the food out and defrost it for an entire day. It should work well for a month or so before it ices back up.

The Defrost Heater is likely burnt out. It is easy to replace, after it is totally defrosted. About $30 on Amazon.com, Google for the instructions, or search YouTube.com for a video.

If you simply defrost it every time it starts doing this, you can get by without changing the Defrost Heater out, but it is a pain to empty and defrost the fridge every month or so.

Won,t get cold freezer side not freezing it is a ge side by side . ice is present at the back of freezer side

The problem is most likely the defrost heater element(s) and/or the defrost timer. The defrost heater element(s) are located with the evaporator core behind the access panel inside of the freezer, and can be removed, tested with an ohm meter, (any reading other than infinity would most likely mean the heater element is functional) and replaced if necessary. The defrost timer can be located inside of the refrigerator, or outside of the refrigerator behind the front kick panel, or behind the rear access cover on the back of the refrigerator.

Usually if the evaporator core is freezing up and not allowing air to flow through the evaporator core, (necessary for the system to function properly) then the defrost timer is most likely working and the defrost heater element(s) would most likely be at fault.

Always place a towel on the bottom of the freezer and use a blow dryer to defrost the evaporator core and never use any sharp or hard objects to pick away the ice or the evaporator core can be damaged and the refrigerant will be leak from the system.

I have included some images to help assist you including an image of a defrost timer that is located inside of the refrigerator, and a new defrost heater element or defrost timer can be purchased from an appliance parts distributor.

Let me know if you require any further assistance.

GE GSH22KGM Frig not defrosting again

I would suggest replacing the # 4 thermistor , which is a 1 " long white piece with 2 white wires attached , clipped to the top of the coils . This thermistor , tells the main control board , the temperature of the coils and the board decides what to do next , such as defrost , end defrost cycle . Also , replace the defrost thermostat , the 1 inch cylinder with 2 wires going to it , which is also clipped onto the coils . This thermostat , cuts the heater off when it reaches a certain temperature , to keep the food from defrosting . It may also help , to replace the # 5 thermistor , which is below the coils , slid into a housing , with 2 white wires going to it also . This thermistor , tells the board , the actual freezer temp , so the compressor will cycle off/on , and the fan speed also . All 3 parts , are relatively not expensive . Be sure to get wire connectors because they do not come with these parts .

Repeated Defroster failure

Ask GE to give you the defrost unit as it is free. Then search the internet for a schematic. Hopefully you will be able to replace the unit yourself.
You will also need a screwdriver, some pliers, cutter etc and soldering equipment.

FREZZER IS COLD FRIDGE IS NOT

OK, Sounds like we have a problem with the defrost. Need to unplug and lets remove the rear panel and examine the defrost heater, It has a glass tub around it so it will be easy to see if its burned out. WR51X10101 Defrost Heater if you need to change the defrost heater it would be a good idea to replace the defrost thermostat also. Part number WR50X10054 Defrost thermostat. I have a GE side by side refrigerator that keeps blowing the defrost heater element. MODEL # TFT22JWDA WW SERIAL # TZ264141 I bought it from a GE dealer about 5-6 years ago. It ran fine for 3 years,...

In my GE side-by-side there is a defrost temp sensor located near the top of the evaporator coil. I think the control board uses that temp sensor to know when it should be done defrosting.

On the schematic of my fridge (link below), the defrost thermistor is part number 240 in the diagram (not part number 241, which is a different temp sensor located adjacent to the one you want)

http://www.partselect.com/ModelFrames.aspx?ModelID=361233&ModelNum=GSS20IEMDWW&mfgModelNum=&ManufactureID=2&Selected=00113321i06&Position=2&mfg=GE&Type=&Mark=2

I don't know why the defrost element would fail immediately other than incorrect supply voltage or just a bad defrost element.

Ice building up in freezer

Due to the frosting up, The glass defrost heater broke. Any good tech knows this happens. The defrost heater must be replaced. If this is a GE side by side. The new replacement heater has dual elements. The standard heater that was put in them, was not large enough to defrost the coils fully. Replace heater and you should be fixed up. I would also replace the thermostat while you are in the freezer section they are only like 15 bucks and this way you will have a new defrost circuit.

GE GSS25WGMCC, Ice Forming On Freezer Interior Surfaces

i had the same problem and i replaced the defrost heater and it worked fine for about one month but now having the same issue. Most of the time from what I have heard it is the defrost heater (about $60 part). I might have another issue going on with mine like a defrost thermostat. Your defrost heater is right under the panel on the inside of the freezer section. remove white panel on back side of freezer section and remove two screws and two wires and replace it and you should be fine.
