Question about Washing Machines

Washer tub won't fill up with water

I have a Whirlpool top load washer that is approx. 10+ yrs old but new to me. When I turn the washer on, water pours in but the tub never fills up. I checked the tube out the back of the washer to make sure the bend in the tube was high enough and it is. But, all the washer does is continue to pour water into the tub and never fill up. After turning off the washer, I can hear the water draining out the tube. So, the wash cycle never even gets a chance to start. Any ideas?

I have a Maytag washer- only a few months old-and just had a problem with the tub not filling up. Tried the above mentioned solution with the drain hose and it solved my problem! Thank you!

Sounds like you may have a siphoning problem. Have you checked the drain line by pulling it up out of the standpipe while the washer was filling? You may have a vacuum causing the water to constantly siphon. The following link explains this:

Having the drain hose high enough may not be the problem. You could very well have the hose stuffed in the standpipe too tight, or placed in the pipe too far. Please doublecheck and let me know if you need further assistance.

In addtion, please post the make and model number of your washer for better advice.

yes there is a water inlet valve . it is the blue valve your water hoses connect to on the rear of the washer, they get sediment built up inside and get stuck , cost $26.50 from Repairclinic.com just go to site .find parts, then type in your model#

Start with the capacitor. It has a funny smell when they go bad. The motor will smell bad as well when it burns up.

Maytag Washer (approx. 7 years old) has slow stream when filling

Follow the two inlet hoses from the back of your machine. They should each end at a valve (one for hot and one for cold). Make sure that these valves are all the way counter-clockwise and that the hoses are not kinked or pinched.

Just moved. New washer leaks water and appears tub is off center

CHECK THE BALANCE SPRING LOCATED (INSIDE LEFT REAR OF MACHINE). IF SPRING IS OFF IT CAN CAUSE THE TUB TO TILT TOWARD THE FRONT AND THE TUB FILL HOOD WILL NOT BE OVER THE TUB DURING FILLING OR THE TUB WILL BE ERATIC DURING THE SPIN WHEN RINSE WATER IS SPAYING IN CAUSE ING THE WATER TO MISS THE TUB AND SPRAY OUTSIDE. THIS IS COMMON IF THE UNIT HAS BEEN MOVED OR PLACED ON IT'S SIDE OR CARRIED AT EXTREME ANGLE.
