It is rare that a lid switch and timer both need replacing.
The 2 ends caps on the control panel will snap off.
Once they are removed, take out the 2 screws on the right and left front sides of the control panel that holds the panel to the top.
Fold the control panel to the rear of the machine.
Unplug the lid switch wire.
Remove the 2 S clips holding the rear panel to the cabinet.
Pull the cabinet forward to remove it.
The lid switch is then accessible inside the cabinet.
Reverse this procedure to re-assemble.

I have a Kenmore top load washer (110-22642100) that will fill, agitate through entire wash cycle, but that's it.

HI THERE, IT SOUNDS AS IF YOUR PUMP IS BLOCKED, NOT WORKING OR SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS. START BY CHECKING THE PUMPS IS NOT BLOCKED, LOOSE CHANGE NORMALLY CAUSES THIS AND IS RELATIVELY EASY TO FIX.

Finding the pump on the Kenmore Elite top load washer is a fairly easy project that can be done in about a half hour. The Kenmore Elite is part of the GE line of appliances and shares many of the same interior mechanical parts and systems. The Kenmore Elite is a very streamlined exterior cabinetry design, but the interior can be accessed by removing just a few screws in order for you to locate the water pump.
things you'll need:

  • Screwdriver
    • 1

Unplug the electrical cord of the Kenmore Elite top load washer from the electrical outlet before attempting to locate the pump.

    • 2

Remove the end caps on the control console of the dryer by pressing in on the caps with your thumbs and pulling the caps forward to unfasten them.

    • 3

Unfasten the screws on the ends of the control console in the front with a screwdriver and tilt the console back so that it rests on the back hinges.

    • 4

Unplug the top lid switch from the rear of the lid that sits underneath the control console, pulling the switch straight up off the metal prongs by hand.

    • 5

Pry the metal clips that sit on the top lid up with a screwdriver, lifting the clips to unlatch the top and pull the top lid cover off the washer base, setting it aside.

    • 6

Locate the water pump at the base of the washing machine on the top of the motor shaft.

    • 7

    • take the cover off the pump and remove any blockage or debris.

thanks and good luck

iain

Won't start when cover closed

your lid safety switch is shot, you need to remove 2 side control panel covers that pop off, then remove 2 screws that are under here, then control panel will separate from top to let you unplug lid switch connection to the control panel, then open the top cover by popping clips inward on the 2 front corners with a putty knife or something flat like this between the top and front covers, then raise top up and lean back against the wall there you can access this switch to replace it,this switch is designed to shut off unit if lid is raised during spin cycle for your safety

I have a top load Kenmore Elite Washing machine that runs for 5 seconds then stops for several minutes. This pattern repeats. It just started yesterday. What is wrong with it? I have unplugged and...

Sounds like the timer is faulty. Or you lid switch is out of wack. Try leaving leaving lid open and placing a screwdriver in switch located where the lid clip comes down into washer. If this works the switch will need replaced. Timer is another story as you will have to remove top panel and replace timer if the lid switch is not the cause

When it comes on and fills with water it stops working, and you cant drain it

The lid switch is the most likely the problem. you should hear a "click" when you open, and when you close the lid. If you dont hear a "click", check the lid switch. It is located inside the control panel. remove the screw in the back of each end cap, they are at a slight angle. remove the 2 hex-head screws at the top-rear of the control panel, then slide the panel toward you and set the panel down on the timer knob. the lid switch is on the left in the cabinet top. make sure its seated and clips in place. they are plastic, and the "bracket" on them break and dont stay down. if this is the case, replace the lid switch. If the lid switch is ok, you have a bad timer.

I have Kemore top load. Door switch needs to be replaced. How do I get to this switch? This is 9 years old

You need to take the case off the washing machine. You can do this by taking the 2 screws out of the front corners of the control panel (Panel with timer). Then that panel will pull forward and flip back. Next there is 2 brass clips holding case on, you pop those out and then you are good to go. Change the lid switch.
