Question about Palm LifeDrive Handheld

Palm LifeDrive Upgrade Results

I downloaded and upgrade my Palm LifeDrive with LifeDrive Update 2.0. Now there are 2 problems that bugs me; 1) the sync process is very slow; 2) it's sucking juice from the battery faster than before. If possible, I'd rather go back to the way it was. It there are way to reset it to factory installation? If it can't be done, would upgrading to the new Desktop/HotSync Manager help? What about the problem with battery life?

Thanks

No need to reset.

Usually the update does the opposite of all of that. What has probably happened is now all of your settings have been set to defaults. So you should check the power off times and make sure what you don't use is turned off. For example if you have bluetooth running it is continually trying to connect to each and every bluetooth device it finds. If you are near other people ie a mall in a office then it will be on continuously. Next to the power used by the harddrive any of the radios wifi/bluetooth draw the most power. Turn it off until you need to use it. Same for the infrared port.

As for the speeds that due to the same thing it was reset back to the default slow speed. Go to prefs
under available connections find Cradle/Cable that's the usb cable. Tap edit. On the next screen tap details. Set the speed up as high as it will go with the flow control to automatic. That will speed up your connection by quite a bit. If you plug into a USB 2.0 port you will transfer much faster than that setting.

You may find other settings are changed as you use the LD. It will work better than before but you have to tweak it. Oh and downloading the desktop won't help.

About 1/2 of he time now, my Zire 31 has problems

Either the digitizer is failing or you have a protective screen on it.

I'm not sur eif Palm is still supporting these of if they have changed policies. It used to be a set fee say $85 to fix or echange. If they still do this. then I would find out if they apply the $25 against the repair fee. You can also send it in to several pda repair places who wil fix it for a reasonable fee.

A Tx or Lifedrive is a better palm but can be worth much more. You can find those used all over and may be the way to go to upgrade if you want to save a few $

PALM DESKTOP CRASHES in new installation.

Make sure you have the latest desktop version which was 414E When you try to reinstall the desktop software DO NOT select or allow update setting over internet. Some of the earlier versions had a problem with earlier xp versions. It is stable and works well with sp2 and sp3 versions of XP so update your windows as well.

Lifedrive wifi

Does the wifi work at all after it resets? Have you applied the level 2 palm srvice pack to the LD? I believe the update changes how the wifi operates. If you go to www.palmone.com and go to the lifedrive page you should see a list of downloads for it. If you click on the 2.0 update there is a description of how to tell if you need this or if it is already installed. You just need to check the version of one file. Download and install the patch and see if that fixes everythng.

If that doesn't fix it you may have a more serious problem that could require replaceing or fixing the LD

Palm LifeDrive

just press the time in the top left hand corner of the lifedrive and a dropdown menu comes down with the option "delete" but this is only for apps. if you want to delete media files, search for a file manager on freewarepalm.com

BackupBuddy VFS Pro supports the LifeDrive?

The readme info needs to be updated. The current readme is actually from the previous version and out of date. It should now look something like this.. (note newest info at top, previous version info underneath) BBVFS 3.1.4 New features include: + added option to backup after HotSync + LifeDrive compatibility fixes Bug fixes include: - some password letters were being ignored - fixed problem of backing up files encrypted with the built-in Security app - blank screen/crash on startup - crashes during orphans processing - no scrollbar appeared when there were more than 10 checkpoints in the list - didn't fail gracefully when trying to restore corrupted backup files BBVFS 3.1, 6.05 * Users may now select which card to backup to on devices with more than one card slot * Backup and Restore of T5 internal drive (!) is now supported * Backup of databases with records > 64K is supported, which will allow backup/restore of Photo/Videos on T3/T5/T650 and "VoiceDial" application * Advanced screen now adds new files to the backup set automatically * Wireless updating (via "About" screen) * Implemented a Palm Source Installer package * Many important bug fixes, including: Several issues relating to compression and encryption "Last Backup" being incorrectly set to "NEVER" No longer will soft-reset if no card is mounted on the T5 TUNGSTEN T5 SUPPORT This build includes further refinements to backup and restore on the T5 but we have confirmed with PalmOne that there are some issues with the T5 NVFS implementation that require a patch from to completely resolve. We recommend that all users download and install the T5 patch that is available here: http://www.palmone.com/us/support/d...ent5update.html Alternatively T5 users may want to try a program called "DBCache Tool" which you may download here: http://www.jade.dti.ne.jp/~imazeki/palm/DBcT/ LIFEDRIVE SUPPORT We are aware that this release contains some remaining issues with the new PalmOne LifeDrive and we are working to resolve them. Please contact support@bluenomad.com if you'd like to help with testing. BBVFS 3.07, 1.05 BackupBuddyVFS 3.07 is being released with preliminary support for the T5/Treo 650, although there are still some outstanding issues that we are continuing to investigate; specifically: * Power Users with a (near) full device especially may experience "out of memory" errors and/or random resets; restarting the backup or restore operation will usually allow it to reach completion. This is due to issues with the new "NVFS" file system on these new devices that developers cannot currently work around. We hope that palmOne will issue a patch to fix this, and we will continue to try and find a work-around. * Photos and Videos will not be backed up on the Treo 650/Tungsten T5.

LD and Navman SmartST with Bluetooth ?

You might need to install the NavMan T5 update (not the Palm T5 update!) before it'll work on your LifeDrive. Dunno, but try it without first.

Lost all contacts, memos, tasks, after LifeDrive Update 1.0

This morning I downloaded LifeDrive Update 1.0, and when I did a HotSync afterwards, I got an error message saying, Handheld Tasks application database version not supported. Handheld Notes application database version not supported. Now my contacts, memos, tasks, calendar entries and possibly other items are all gone!! This is the core data that is the reason why I use a PDA! I would be totally distraught, except that the data does still seem to exist in Outlook on my PC. I am running Outlook 2002, SP3 on a WinXP machine. Can anyone help to fix this problem? thanks,
