When the machine is warmng up to print, it makes a repeating clacking noise, like it is missing a gear. It does not make the noise when it prints.

The only thing I can think of is the paper tray trying to lift up during warm up and there is a gear slipping but catches itself which is why you dont hear it again??

if you open the trays and close them does it do it??

Check the rails the paper tray sits upon. see if the one on the right side is damaged or dislodged. You didn't say if the noise happened when you printed from the 2nd paper tray.

Printer stopped working. makes loud cracking noise.repeats movement and noise

Sound could come from either a stripped gear or toothed belt. Try printing a blank page or two, if it doesn't feed then the above is a good possibility.

could be a few things... take out the drum and make sure the toner is put back in. then keep the right side door open and push the silver metal flap down near the back of the door opening (its the interlock that tells the machine the right side door is closed) and see if the noise occurs. if it does then you no its not the drum. so u can reinstall it. try to pin point the source of the sound with the right side door open. could be one of the many gears in back or the fuser (which is above the green colored drum) 4 screws and one wire harness takes off the fuser and u can physically inspect to see if the gears are missing any teeth or the bushings are broken. if all looks well then reinstall turn machine around and take off the back cover (6 screws) wiggle it off and turn the machine on and look closely at all the gears on the left(looking at the back) top side. when it starts it warm up process check to see if any gears are making the sound or cracked. if those gears are shot u mught need a new main drive assembly which is really difficult and time consuming to repair.

HP Color Laserjet 2840 now makes ear-splitting whine every time

Did the noise start right after you replaced a toner? If so it must be a bad toner which is causing the gears to grind. If this noise happened out of the blue then it might be a bad fuser drive gear which is the gears that connect the fuser to the machine.

HP P3005 making grinding noises

this is a problem that HP refuses to acknowledges. Its caused by the gear that meshes with the main fuser gear..it wanders to the right as the printer prints. we are checking into a fix for this, since we are getting no cooperation for the manufacturer, Canon or HP. Canon makes the print engine

Change the gears , coz when the machine load or when you are printing the roller turn, and those roller has gears at the ends so when they are died they give those sounds, open the cover and try to detect which gear make this noise and change it.

Sharp AL1642 CS Copier Grinding noise and Paper Jams

Loud clacking sound, jamming in fuser ? sounds like the gear that turns the fuser are bad and not meshing together,
accordion jam is the fingers or claws that ride on the fuser roller are probably worn out ( these can be replaced usually 3-5 ).

You can buy the parts and replace them yourself if a handy person, not that difficult.

Canon PC920 paper feed "clacking" & not working.

check the tray and make sure the guides are set correctly, clacking sound is usually because the tray is set for Legal and has Letter, the paper is towards the bac of the tray and the pick up assembly is making the noise,
otherwise the tray is either not going up (broken gear, )

Machine has a catching noise

See if it's printing or not, usually the fuser gears wear out and either the gears need replacing or the full fuser assembly, there are other possibilities but this is likely the cause

NOTE: try removing the cartridge then turn on to make sure it's not that

thanks for rating
