It just sounds like a poor quality job...the proper way to do a brake job is a high quality set of front pads such as a bendix or raybestes gold line pads,, then have the front brake rotors machined an a amco brake lathe or even better a on the car brake lathe. make sure all brake caliper hardware is properly cleaned an lubercated or replaced with new hardware....then have the rear brakes adjusted( adjust only if ur car has rear drum brakes...rear disc brakes r selfadjusting

John, youre a *****. you dont have to buy $100 dollar brake shoes to "do the brake job right". i have gotten $20 brakes from autozone before and have had no issues with them. the rattling and noise could be something as simple as the brake hardware needing to be replaced, which most mechanic shops dont do. the kit is under $10 bucks and two kits will do all four brakes. lmmfao im shocked at the level of stupidity on here.

My wheels squeak. Can they be greased?

Is the squeak when you drive along or when you are braking?
If it is when you brake you will need to get you brakes serviced with new brake pads. Some brake pad companies fit a layer into the pad to cause a deliberate squeal when they are wearing too low.
If it is an on/off squeak that changes with road speed you will need to have the brake discs checked to see if they are warped.

Honda crv 2003 - squeaking / squealing nosie from passenger side that disappears when braking or turning hard

If only the pads were changed then you can't expect much

Proper brake service requires hours of rust removal, lubing
certain places & parts, new or machined rotor, fluid flush and
much more.

No reason at all for brakes to squeak except poor & sloppy
work

99% of that comes from the pros

Those who work on there own cars eventually learn the
proper way to do things & resolve problems

I don't know your situation or where the work was done or
by whom

You could have rusted & frozen caliper pistons from never
changing brake fluid every 2 years or bad flex hose holding
pressure on pads.

When driving or starting the car i notice when using the brakes it makes a squeaking noise - not all the time think its possibly damp causing it as it was raining yesterday and it happened but no rain...

To address your first problem squeaking brakes aka "brake squeal", is most often casued by one or 2 things: "Pad vibration" or a "low brake warning sensor".

Pad vibation is usually caused by ineffective pad anti-rattling clips & hardware that allow the pads to vibrate at a super fast speed whenever the brakes are applied, thus causing a high pitch brake squeal. To correct this, replace all the pad hardware and anti-rattling clips and make sure you use a quality pad set that has anti-rattling plates attached to the backs of them. Weather conditions do affect brake squeal, that is why it seems to be worse at times.

Low brake warning sensor squeal occurs when your brake pads reach the point of replacement, the sensor attached to the pads scrapes on the rotor which produces a high pitch squealing sound to warn you it's time for new pads.

As far as your second problem goes (a knocking sound), I'll need more information about the problem before I can offer a possible cause (eg. happens on left or right turns, while going over bumps, at high or low speeds, accellerating...).

I have a 2003 pt cruiser and my brakes keep screaming, my dad checked both the back and front brake pads/drums but said that they were fine but would soon need to change the front pads. he also said that...

Screaming brakes dont mean the fluid is low, the brakes squeaking is due to vibration of the pads and calipers, the brakes could be fine and still squeak, in order to rid the noise you would need to remove the pads and replace the pad hardware clips and then apply some anti squeal to backside of the pads, this helps almost always but some cars the pads are so glazed that they need replacing and rotors machined or replaced, if your dad said they were good for now then its safe. if the noise is something you wish to get rid of then follow the above instructions. good day.

After a couple visits to our local mechanics for brakes repair of a 2006 chevy siverado short bed reg cab. My rear brakes are the problem first the mechanics changed them out with premium pad then now...

Make sure the mechanic checked the park brake shoes inside the rear rotors, they quite often break away from the lining and get wedged in the rotor, sometimes causing a constant squeal noise. I've also seen the brake pad anti-rattle metal clips become loose and wander in the caliper bracket, they lightly rub against the rotor and cause a squealing noise similar to worn brake pads. They are also very bad for the backing plates rusting out prematurely and rubbing on the inside of the rotor. Other than that he can just try to champher the edges of both front and rear pads to help dissipate the brake dust, from collecting and causing squeak noises.

Squeking wheel off and on while driving

get your car to a service centre immediately, squeaking usually indicates worn brake pads, most brake pads now have things called shims, that let out an almighty strange squealing sound that goes on and off as the wheel turns, as you get faster, it gets quicker, it might be front brakes or rear brakes, but make sure you get them all checked, i have had on more than one occasion, front left brake pads ok, front right low, or rear and vice-versa

Back Wheel Squeaking - Rotors and Brakes

If it isn't the brake pad worn out, then it is the brake backing/dust guard sheet metal shield ( AKA backing plate), take a suitable device like a large screwdriver and bend the backing plate away from the rotor. Problem solved.
