Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Our Maytag dishwasher, mod MDB9150AWS, has abad lower rack due to rust and prongs coming loose. Maytag sent me a replacement BUT without the center spray tower. It looks like trouble to remove the old one and install it in the new lower rack. Any help would be appreciated.

Problem resolved. I figured it out myself. The tower rotates and comes off easily.

Yes, I resolved the problem after thoroughly studying the assembly. It was relatively simple; all I had to do was turn the spray tower 90 degrees and it came free of the rack.

Thanks for the web site, nonetheless.

Rust spots on bottom rack

You may need to replace the rack. Dishwasher soap is aggressive and once an area is exposed, it will rust fast. Make sure you don't place sharp objects in direct contact with a rack. The action inside the washer can cause them to move and rub through the metal rack coating.

Dishwasher replacement part

Instead of replacing it you might try re-coating the rack with Plasti-dip. Available at some hardware stores.

Maytag portable dishwasher, dish racks are very rusted in 2 years

This is Maytags solution

Do the dishwasher racks have chips or scratches showing exposed metal underneath?
If minor rack repairs are needed, a dishwasher rack repair kit just might work. To review this product or purchase the kit, click here.
Should you purchase the kit online, enter Promo Code F9A75Q4 in the Review Order screen when you check out to receive a 10% discount on your order.
For more severe rack damage, a replacement rack may need to be purchased; call the Maytag Customer eXperience Center toll-free at 1-866-616-2601, Monday-Friday, 8AM-6PM, Eastern Time.

I would call the toll free number and see if a free replacement is available. If not at least try to get a big discount on replacing them.

Good luck and thanks for using Fix Ya, please take the time to rate this solution (from Fix Ya, not Maytag, I didn't like their solution).

Maytag dishwasher model #PDB3600AWX prongs rust & disintegrate

Getting a replacement set is not hard www.partselect.com has the part. If you don't want to spend the money you might try scraping the rust off of the prongs and then use a high temperature rated epoxy product to dab a new covering over the exposed steel. That might last for awhile. I'm guesssing. I think it needs to be a covering that can stand high temperature with a rating of at least 200 degrees or better and a chemical and humidity resistance rating. An electrical conductivity rating and thermal conductivity rating are not required. Its a patch but it might work Ok. I don't think the rust will get on your bottles but the prongs will weaken and break after awhile so if you can stop the rusting that will help you get more life out of the racks.

Rusty racks

Check your warranty to see if it covers your racks. Some models have a longer warranty against rack rusting if you have Duraguard racks. If they are Dura guard racks and still under warranty, Maytag will replace them at no charge.

Rusty dish rack

Clearly a design or manufacturing flaw. I have the same model and the rack is disintegrating after 6 years. I believe it is a manufacturing flaw. Our previous dishwasher rack lasted over 20 years in the same conditions. Same construction, vinyl covered steel. New upper and lower racks cost over 200.00 and there is no guarantee that this won't happen every six years. I recommend a new non-Maytag dishwasher as soon as you can. Meanwhile, limp along with the defective racks.
