Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9564J Top Load Washer

Whirlpool washer Duet model ghw9100lw

My 5 year old Whilrpool side-loading Duet washing machine will not spin or drain water, instead it makes a cracking/crunching sound as if it is trying but unlable. It seems that the pump ajacent to the drain hose it the culprit as it is where the sound of crunching is being made.

It the replacement of this pump very complicated or can I do it.

Thank you so much! No, there was no error code displayed and it seems that there was partial drainage but not enough to totally empty the inside drum. The noise is what prompted me to investigate. Thanks to your insturctions, I pulled out a lace doilie and a number of rusty straight pins from the trap. I ran a short cycle it it seemed to work, but I am not sure if I am imagining it, but the motor next to the clean-out trap is making a grinding noise. I am trying to figure out how to look inside the 'black box' to see some stripped grears or whatever they are called.

Okay, it sounds like you could very well have something lodged in the pump impeller. You can check the pump and clean the reservoir to see if there actually IS something there, and to see if clearing it will enable the washer to drain. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385845-checking_drain_pump_in_whirlpool_duet

Follow these instructions, you may get away without having to order any replacement parts. If you can hear the pump running, there may be a chance that the pump still may be operational. However, if something has been lodged in the impeller for a while, the pump may be damaged to the point where it no longer pumps like it should. The only cure for this is to replace the pump. The next link gives you step-by-step tips on how to do it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401845-replacing_drain_pump_whirlpool_duet

Many of the steps are similar, but I try to be thorough. To answer your question, yes, this can be accomplished by the average do-it-yourselfer. You can find a replacement pump at searspartsdirect.com. Type in your model number as "GHW9100LW0" and the pump can be found under the "Pump and Motor" heading as item number 10 (part #8181684). The pump is sold as a complete assembly. I noticed that the pump is currently listed as being on backorder. It may take a couple of weeks for it to ship. If you need the pump sooner, repairclinic.com also carries it, but charges more for it. If decide to go this option, use the part number provided by Sears.

I'm still a little miffed by your symptoms. Normally, a drainage problem has an error code associated with it. Did the washer flash any codes on the front panel display? If so, you need to provide that information as well. If you require further assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

The motor next to your clean out trap is the drain pump motor. This is sold as a complete unit with a replacement pump. They can tend to be noisy, but if it is making an usually loud noise, you may think about replacing it soon. I gave you the part information and how to replace it in my previous post. This is a job that you can easily do without the assistance of a repairman. If you decide to replace this yourself, just follow the steps I've provided for you. If you need assistance at any point, please let me know. In the mean time, I'm glad you were able to resolve the drainage problem. Congrats.

PS For future reference, besides checking pockets more thoroughly, make sure you use garment bags for small items. Socks and underwear have been known to find their way into the drain lines on this washer. I've had to unclog several of them.

Model # GHW9100LW on final rinse and spin water remains in washer, door locked and humming sound comes from machine....pause/cancel will not unlock door or start new cycle... what might be the problem?

Sounds like the pump is trying to drain the water but something is clogged in it or the pump itself is bad. Door wont unlock if machine thinks there is water inside. Remove front lower panel. pump is in center. Unscrew cap and remove attached filter. Be prepared for water to come gushing out once filter is removed. Clean filter and reinstall. If problem persists then the pump itself needs to be replaced.

It sounds like basket support failure. How old is the machine? They usually **** at around 5 to 6 years. Unless you are going to fix it yourself or it's under extended warranty, junk it.

The repair requires a complete teardown of the washer. two to six hours labor depending on tech skill level.
