Question about Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook

Battery charger We are going over to the UK to work for the next year or so. Do I need a different charger cord for my laptop given the different voltage over there? I'll need a outlet adapter obviously, but do I need a transformer or what?

No, you should check your adapter itself (there should be a label on the side of it) but all recent genuine Dell chargers accept anything from 100-240V at either 50 or 60hz. All you need is the outlet adapter you suggest as the UK supply is 230V at 50hz.
Hope you enjoy it over here!

C855 laptop won't power up

Your laptop charge which originally came with your laptop may have a defect. The laptop you are having problems with needs a compatible charger to power up. Not all laptop chargers work for different laptops. Shop on Amazon and reference the exact make (model number) of your laptop specific hardware (Charger) of what you are looking for. I bet it is your charger.

How to troubleshoot a laptop charger.

  • Step 1 Wrap your charger's exposed wiring with electrical tape before proceeding. This will help to prevent any kind of electrical hazard or further damage.
  • Step 2 Push the wire next to the charger base (the connecting tip near the laptop end) side to side to see if you can get a current to connect. This is a temporary solution, but it can help you salvage your files so that you can work with them on a different computer.
  • Step 3 Make sure that it isn't a battery problem. Many laptop owners believe their charger is the problem when their battery is charging. Laptop batteries generally begin to lose the ability to hold a charge after two to three years of heavy usage. Try removing your laptop battery. If the computer still runs, the charger is not the problem.
  • Step 4 Check to see if the issue lies in your computer. You can do this by testing out an alternate charger on the laptop--if the charger still does not work, it's an internal laptop issue. For this kind of power system problem, you will probably have to send your computer to its manufacturer rather than a local repair shop.
  • Step 5 Replace your charger. A replacement charger is usually easy to find and quite affordable. Instead of going to a local electronics retailer where universal chargers can cost $100 or more, look online for your specific model's charger. Some chargers can be purchased for as little as $5

My compaq is power on for 2 second and off , how to fix is thank you

You need to print this out-on someone else's computer. Hope it works for you!
Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Compaq Presario F700 laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the Compaq Presario F700 . This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your Compaq Presario F700 laptop on.

Boot in "safe mode". As it starts up press F8, the computer ask you if you'd like to start in safe mode. Highlight "safe mode" and press enter. See if your laptop is booting up ok .

If your Compaq Presario F700 boots ok, do the following,

    Try System Restore first,
Start Menu->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore. Choose the most recent date before you the encountered problem. If it doesn't work, try the next date.

If System Restore does not fix it, as a last resort, you might need to fdisk, reformat your laptop hard disk clean and reinstall OS, that usually fixes all bugs. Before going that route, try following,

    Uninstall unnecessary programs and applications.

    Scan with a antivirus program

    Scan with a spyware/malware program

Clean up and repair registry problems with registry repair software of your choice

If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your Compaq Presario F700 laptop power cord or power source problem? Defective or insufficient power supply might cause error messages that are misleading. Take the battery out and power on your laptop with the charger only. Make sure your Compaq Presario F700 power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Did you notice the power jack loose? You can find laptop power jack on ebay. Fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill though. The charger green/blue LED should be on. If not, replace the defective charger. Compaq Presario F700 laptop battery charger, especially its power cord/cable, lifespan is limited and does not last forever, consider buying a lifetime warranty charger online from company like

My laptop is not charging. i plug the power in but still doenst charge. im not sure if its on the power cords or on the laptop please help asap i need my laptop for school :(

Does the laptop work on AC ? Is the battery or cord/charged a replacement? First, try another cord/charger of the EXACT same specs as original. Second, Is the battery good? How old? Over 4 years? Have it tested. Beware of inexpensive aftermarket batteries and cord/chargers. I assume the laptop works on AC? If you unplug the AC , with battery in, the laptop shuts down immediately?

How to tell if a105-s4074 satellite battery is bad

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

    Toshiba L305 wont hold charge

I will suspect the battery first. I make sure the battery I reseat the battery, make sure the charger is well plugged in and no damage to the cable. The next step is that I would test with a known good battery and if the problem still persist test with a known good AC charger. If the battery and AC charger and its cable/cord are determined to be good I will be thinking of big/expensive issue with main board which may not worth the trouble if the laptop is relatively old like 2 years

Charger tips to small for dell laptop

A Dell Mini net book is a small and very portable laptop. The compact size makes it a good candidate for travel or just simply using around the house. Outdoor aficionados can get the most computing life out of a Dell Mini by finding a way to charge the battery outside. One method works when you are near a building while the other can be used for more remote outdoor locales

    Things You'll Need
    • Extension cord
    • Solar laptop charger
    • Dell Mini power adapter

      • 1 Plug an extension cord into an available power outlet. Run the extension cord to where you are outside. Many homes also have exterior outlets. Use an extension cord that is designed for outside use. Plug the Dell Mini power adapter into the extension cord to charge the battery.
      • 2 Purchase a laptop solar charger. Solar chargers are available from several different manufacturers and may come in the form of a roll or be built into a case that closes up for travel. Depending on the charger, you may also need to purchase a Dell Mini power adapter. Some chargers work with a Dell Mini cigarette lighter adapter that is designed to plug into a vehicle's power port.
      • 3 Place the solar laptop charger in a sunny location. Open up the case if the charger is in one and roll it out flat or unfold it to expose all of the solar cells.
      • 4 Connect the Dell Mini power adapter to the power port on the solar charger. Connect the other end to the netbook. The adapter will regulate the charge coming from the solar panel and recharge the battery in the Dell Mini.
    1. Tips & Warnings
    2. Solar chargers offer less power than a wall outlet. They can be used to extend the battery life of a Dell Mini or to recharge the battery when the netbook is off.
    3. Some solar laptop chargers are relatively heavy. Take the weight into consideration if you are going to be backpacking or otherwise carrying it on your person.

My HP mini 210 does not turn on. The power light is off. Might the battery be bad?

If it does not turn on with the power supply plugged in then its more serious than your battery as laptops do not need the battery in when the power is in.
you may have a fulty power socket or even worse a faulty motherboard.
they can be repaired but it is usualy a technicians work.
see socket repair bottom right here.
if your in the UK, I can repair it for you just email on the contact page of the site.

    Hp power supply failiure

Ive worked on a friends G7000 series laptop, since it had the same symptoms you have with yours.

I tested it on my own(identical) working charger/PSU and still no charging.
After taking the motherboard out, i traced the fault to a short circuit FET (field effect transistor) with the PCB reference of PQ1, located right next to the connector for the DC power jack loom.(short from gate to source) The FET is made by Fairchild Semiconductors and its part number is FDS6675BZ. Being in the UK, i ordered the part from at a cost of 56pence. After changing this FET(which is there to control power) the laptop is working.

If you are not good with very intricate surface mount soldering, then i suggest you buy the component, take the motherboard out of the laptop(not too hard) and take them both down your local TV repair shop for them to check and change it(tell them the board reference PQ1).. shouldnt cost more than £20 or so been as they dont have to fault find.
