For data recovery, you can rely on a data recovery program to recover data from the crashed laptop.Download this one to have a try.
http://www.asoftech.com/adr/
It can recover lost data due to drives crash, system sabotage, etc.

Remove the hard drive and install it into another computer as a slave. Then you can copy your files on it.
If it shows up in 'my computer' as a drive letter(like E: drive) but you can't access it,you can recover data on it with data recovery program to avoid losing them.I have succeed with Tenorshare data recovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data due to drives crash, physical damage, system sabotage, virus corrupted partitions etc.Get it here: http://www.any-data-recovery.com/ After you recover your data, you can format it to check out whether it can be fixed.
If the hard drive can't be detected, you can try this way.Put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in the freezer for overnight. Then while it's still cold plug it into the computer and you may be able to view it in 'my computer'. And if needed, run the recovery program to recover your data on it.
If it fails, you will have to go to a recovery office where supply data recovery service but let's hope not because it will cost you a lot of money and whether they can recover data is not guaranteed.

You can download the free Hiren's boot CD, open the ISO in a burning software like power ISO and burn it to a CD/DVD.
http://www.hirensbootcd.org/files/Hirens.BootCD.14.0.zip
Once you do, boot from the CD and go to the backup tools section-> Raw Copy which is the data recovery tool. It will scan your HDD and recover what data it can. Remember that data from physically damaged hard drives is very hard to recover, but its worth a shot.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I have a maxtor external hard drive how do i recovery software

Hi ,
The best way I can think to recover your data is to extract the HDD from it's box ( box will be lost ) and connect the drive directly inside your desktop .
You could also try a recovery tool , from here for instance http://www.geckoandfly.com/3163/crashed-hard-drive-hard-disk-data-recovery-software-tools-and-service/
Best regards .

My maxtor external hard drive has stopped working. When I plug the power in the light only comes on temporarily therefore i can't use it. Have I lost all my saved data?

My maxtor external hard drive has stopped working. There is a chance that you can recover data using a USB to IDE or SATA Adapter Cable to recover your data they cost about $30 if you cant get hard drive to power with adapter chances are it has crashed there are places that can get data off hard drive but they are very pricey hope this helps.

Maxtor Basics External HDD, 500Gb. Drive was dropped while running a file on the drive. As soon as power is conected now it makes a noise like an alarm, ernnn......ernnn.....with about a one second gap...

Sounds like your drive is trying to recalibrate itself which is what the clicking noise is. This is similar to the post routine for your motherboard when you boot up to ensure everything is operating properly. You indicated the drive may have suffered some physical damage and this is a result of that. Probably a head crash and one of the heads is damaged or the calibration track is damaged. Try switching the heads with another drive of the same model. If it comes up (calibrates) get your data off fast and consider yourself lucky. If it doesn't come up then it is dead. You can call one of the repair services listed on the net or try contacting the manufacturer for their opinion. Good luck, but I think you have a very serious problem.
