What are the switches for on the back of Alpine c da 9984

Those are for Ai-Net accessories (CD changer, amps, etc). If you're not using anything with Ai-Net, then I suggest you leave them as they are.

I have my cd changer (alpine) plugged into the input port via ai net cable and I have the output going to the alpine radio (cda 9886) via ai net cable. When I hit the source button everything comes up but...

One thing to verify is that the Ai-Net switch at the bottom of the radio is set to Norm and not the EQ position. And also gray Ai-Net connectors are for audio input and the black Ai-Net connectors are for audio output. It sounds like you have everything connected correctly and at least the Sirius is coming up. And I assume that the CD changer works when connected directly to the reciever so you know that it is working. I would suspect that there might be a problem with the Sirius reciever not allowing the communication signal to connect to the Alpine deck and in that case you would need to get a new reciever. You could check the Alpine radio settings and see if there is something that needs to be changed in order to allow the CD changer to work. If you disconnected the battery connection to the radio then it might have reset the settings to factory default. Otherwise it sounds to me like the problem is with the Sirius reciever.

I believe you need the Alpine KCA-410C - Ai-Net multi-changer/versatile link adapter before you can input from an external source directly.

The amp requires a compatible Ai-net Alpine head unit to operate it. I bought one too and didnt know this and im still trying to put all of the peices together to create a working stereo system without buying everything all over again.

CDA - 9833 AI-Net issue

If the radio was still plugged in when you cut it (such a BAAAADDD idea....) it likely shorted the data pins to the power pins which fried the AI net processor. There is no fix for that. It's toast.
