May be caused by: ? An incorrect antenna mast installed for the antenna base equipped with the vehicle ? Poor ground at the antenna base or radio ? Poor battery ground to chassis or engine ? Poor antenna cable connection at Radio ? Corrosion at the antenna coaxial connectors at radio or antenna Service Vehicles are equipped with either a Bosch or a Clarion antenna base mounted on the roof and (for shipping purposes) the appropriate matching mast is located in the luggage compartment. If radio antenna masts are removed from vehicles and stored until vehicles are sold, there is a chance that an incorrect mast can be installed at the time of delivery. Note: Mismatched antenna mast and base will cause poor AM radio reception. My 2010 S80 does not get AM reception. Dealer says this can not be improved.

There are after maker car antenna amplifiers or boosters, the device is connected between the antenna cable and the RF input of your receiver, please check the picture below as reference:

Cant get radio to play stops on station wont pick up antaina hooked up

Check if the antenna male plug is completely plugged into the antenna port of the car stereo. If it is plugged well in the car radio but don't pick stations then your antenna cable is bad.You need to install a new set of antenna, available at any car audio supply.

Sony car radio cd player was working ok still got all power but no stations coming through at all when we press search

If it's a new install, ensure your antenna cable is plugged into rear of unit. If it still doesn't work, may be faulty antenna cable.

I have a electric radio antenna from a 1987 buick regal the nylon string with a metal cable inside used to extend and retract the mast is broke into if i could a new piece i could fix it. walt

Yes it is possible to replace just the mast/antenna part. You just need to goto a car audio place and get an replacement mast. The only other problem is if the the other half of the nylon piece is still stuck in the motor.
Take off the antenna nut that holds the antenna to the car and turn on the radio. The antenna should spit it's guts out, then position the new nylon lead in the same orentation that the old one came out, have an assistant turn off the radio and the antenna should get sucked back in. You need to be somewhat quick when doing the replacement part, sometimes you need to try a couple of times to get the antenna all the way in.
If it doesn't go all the way down there may be a piece of the old nylon string still stuck inside the antenna body.

2002 monte carlo ss am/fm radio w/cd...all of a sudden (after having car detailed) only one or two fm stations come in...and are somewhat static'y...no longer can receive am stations...cd plays fine...all...

I would suggest that the antenna is bad. If the detailer sent the car threw a car wash or just by coincidence the connection may have failed at the base of the antenna. Cheapest troubleshooting solution is buy a replacement antenna for the car and just connect it to the radio without installing it. If the reception dosen't get any better then replace the radio and return the antenna. To recieve AM you must ground the outside body/base of the antenna (not the whip part) to a bare metal part of the car (door jamb etc.). Most car antennas have a TINY center conductor somewhat like copper leaf in the antenna cable that increases the possibility of failure.

Cb feedback though external am/fm speakers

Hi Big OX,

Terrible problem.  I know what your going though.  Route your AM/FM Antenna wire, and Speaker wires separate from the  CD Antenna cable and power supply wires. If you can,  twist the speaker wires.  If the Speaker wires are run along side the CB Antenna wire for a short distance, you will pickup feedback. If you much have the Antenna wire get near the speaker wires, have the antenna wire cross the speaker wire at a 90 degree angle. Try not to run the antenna wire in paralell with the speaker wires.   Good luck
