The Small Gear drive from the motor is stripped. It no longer shreds.

My Novi Tech 6 shredder works fine in reverse but forward does not work. It start and after 1 second stops. any help on how to fix it.

My NovaTech PS026/B2 6 sheet crosscut shredder runs fine in reverse but only goes about one inch forward then I have to reverse it out and start again. Help!!!!

  • Anonymous Mar 23, 2009

NoviTech paper shredder quit accepting paper. The machine will not feed paper to shredd. The only way you can get it to feed is reverse it first and then switch it back to on/auto. It still will not feed an entire 8x11 sheet so you again have to reverse it and switch back to on/auto several times for it to consume the full piece of paper.

I had the same problem with my Novitech Model: PS-026/B2 only working in reverse but not forward. So I decided to take it apart and see if I could find any loose wires, broken parts etc. Keep in mind I am not a paper shredder mechanic, but I was able to fix it, at least for the time being, and here is how:

1. Unplug the machine, and I mean it. Make sure you unplug the machine before you start any fixin'. Unplug the machine!

2. I unscrewed the 7 screws located at the bottom of the case

3. I carefully separated the cases and made sure I did not allow any tension on the few wires that span the case halves

4. With the can of electronics duster I use for my computer keyboard, I sprayed all of the electric contacts, making sure I did not spray any of the grease at the gears. I poked the straw in all of the switch housings and the motor.

5. If you feel a little adventurous, you can remove the 6 screws that hold the cover and safety switch in place. At this point pay attention to how the safety switch arm is positioned ( take a picture if you have to) so it will be in the correct position during assembly. Remove the cover and look for anything that could be caught in the shredders. Remove any foreign matter with tweezers or needle nose pliers. Replace the safety switch and cover, make sure the switch arm is in the same position before you took it apart.

6. Put the two case halves together making sure there are no wires pinched inbetween. Put the seven screws back where they belong and tighten snugly ( do not over tighten cause you will break the plastic, guaranteed!)

7. Place the machine on the waste bucket and plug it in. And voila the motor should start buzzing and humming like it was brand new.

Solution 1 worked for me. I unscrewed all 7 screws, pulled apart the cover carefully. Beware, there are wires attached. you can lay it side by side.

The activator is the white plastic thing. You need to make sure that it sticks out and as the paper goes from the top, through the cover, it hits the white activator.

At the end of the white activator, you see it has some plastic to push on the metal strip. This engages the forward motion. You'll here a click if you test the paper going through. This click is the sound of telling the motor to roll forward.

I think it got knocked out of place when I tried to insert a CD into it. Luckily, I didn't buy another shredder because of the Best Solution in this forum. So thanks for your help!

That worked PERFECTLY on mine, also not wanting to move forward but for a paces. :)

I finally managed to get it open when I worked out that the 7th screw is hidden under the NoviTech sticker, and yep, the problem was the white plastic "activator" that had become out of position and was no longer engaging the metal strip. Thanks for these instructions -- saved me from having to buy a new shredder (and saved the landfill from another chunk of metal and plastic!)

I have a novitech shredder and the light doesnt even come on any more. the machine doesnt work either.doesnt appear to be jammed. Help!

I have a model PS-026/B1 which has a safety switch that detects when you have the shredding head sitting on the basket or not. If not positioned correctly or, if switch is now damaged/defective, this will prevent power from activating anything.

Have a NoviTech paper shredder, Model PS-026/B1 which will take paper, than stops! Need to reverse, than stops... What do I do?

Office Depot offers $30 to trade in an old shredder toward the purchase of a new one. They currently have an Ativa Micro-Cut on sale for $89.99, less trade-in makes it $59.99. If they accept the $10 coupon from their online survey, the final price is $49.99! Face it, shredder blades dull eventually, so look for them to go on sale and trade in/trade up!

Had the Novitech paper shredder model PS- 106/B2 for just a short amount of time now, and it seems to be stuck in auto mode. It will not turn off unless one uplug's it. Forward and Reverse still work. ...

Make sure the unit is unplugged from the wall and look at the center of the blades and there is a little switch that senses when you insert a piece of paper into the shredder. That switch is stuck in probably by a piece of shredded paper, clean out the area and that should fix your problem.

How do I lubricate my NoviTech shredder?

If you prefer the convenience and don't mind the extra cost, you can buy shredder lubricant sheets at an office supply store and follow the directions on the package.

Or for a far less expensive method, buy a bottle of generic mineral oil (or baby oil) in the drug store. Spread 1/2 tsp of the oil onto a piece of letter size scrap paper, and run the oiled paper through the shredder. Then run the shredder in reverse for a few seconds and in forward for a few more seconds to spread the oil over the shredding cylinders. That's it.

NoviTech Paper Shredder PS-045/B stops working after a while.

I have workrd on shredders for 17 years. you need to spray a light wait oil in to the paper shut. It is a catch 22 paper dust & paper builds up in them and the covers need to come off and be cleaned out or gears start stripping or braking.
good luck

Novitech shredder

After clearing the jam (with the unit unplugged!), let the unit cool completely, then try using it again. A notice on the nameplate inside my unit says: "2 min on/4 min off." Apparently, a thermal cutoff keeps it from overheating by automatically preventing continued operation that might otherwise melt the parts. So heed the directions. I had the same problem with my NoviTech Model PS-026/B2 crosscut shredder (max: 5 sheets, 1 credit card). Also, make sure the motor mechanism is seated square and flush on the bin. I tried testing it out of the bin, and the green ready light wouldn't come on -- for a good reason: safety. (I still have all of my fingers, thanks to that!) Hope this helps.
