Hate to tell you, but it may be a
goner. Many units have a rectangular air filter that may be clogged, but I would still expect to see some moisture removal. Without exact model I'll have to be general,.... remove cover (front or back, depends on model) to see cooling coils. If the compressor is running, these coils should be wet or may have a light frost on them for a time. Not = refrigerant leak. (not economical to repair) If you see one small area of ice,... it's also a
goner. If the compressor does not run you could have a bad compressor, a bad defrost control, or a bad control /
humidistat. Other than the filter or possibly a fan motor, these unit are rarely economical to repair.

- Sometimes it is difficult to even tell if the compressor is running due to the fan noise. Whithout a clamp on amp meter or a direct test cord for the compressor, you may be able to ascertain that the compressor is running by touching the compressor to feel for vibration and/or heat. Fan and Comp running + no moisture on coils = leak in sealed system. (NER: not economical to repair) Fan running but not comp: disconnect power and remove 3 wires from top of comp. check resistance between terminals. should not be any "open" readings. "open" = bad comp(NER). should be no resistance (open) from terminals to case. any resistance there = bad comp. If comp tests OK, you can try to find defrost control or board from another dehumidifier (there are no easy tests for these components), but there are many different ones, some of which look identical but are not, plus how do you know these used parts are good? If you can find a used dehumid of the same model with a known sealed system leak you can try the parts from it.
