Question about IBM (250410U) Docking Station for ThinkPad

USB ports in docking station stopped working suddenly

Hi, I have an IBM ThinkPad with a docking station and it has been working beautifully. I undocked the laptop last night to use it in another location and when I re-docked it, the USB ports would no longer work. I am working around that by plugging the keyboard and scanner into the laptop directly now instead of the docking station but I would like to get the docking station back up.
Also, the printer that is connected to it will not work and that I cannot hook up directly to the laptop since it does not have a big enough slot for that cable.
I have read a bit online at other sites and it appears this is a common problem but there is no consensus on the solution.
Thank you for any assistance you can give me.

I've undock my laptop to use it somewhere else and when I've dock it back again, the USB ports were no longer working. Everything else seems to be working (DVD player, Ethernet port, etc). The problem is only on the USB ports.

    I'm using:
    Laptop - ThinkPad X60
    Docking Station - ThinkPad X6 UltraBase (P/N 40Y8117)

I was having the same problem - the USB ports seemed to have stopped working so I could not use the mouse, keyboard, or printer, even though the monitors and power could still operate through the docking station. Finally, I just unplugged the docking station for 30 seconds, plugged it back in, and everything resumed working. I was surprised it was that simple, but it's working for the moment.

Hi
you have two options
1. Use Docking Station, more USB peripherals use USB port.
2. Docking Station also replaced by new.

I was not given the key to unlock the Thinkpad docking station from the machine. Aside from going all the way back to where I got it and beating the living hell out of the ********* clerk, what can I do?

The easiest answer would be to call a locksmith. They should be able to either make a knew key for you, or at least get the thing unlocked. We use to use these docks at work and the keys got lost often enough that they stopped locking them down. IBM might also be able to get you a replacement. My suggestion would be to call IBM first, if no luck there call a locksmith or attempt to pick it yourself if you've got the skills for that.

Best of luck to you mate!

When connecting laptop to docking station, message pops up: unknown usb, restoring to an earlier point does not fix the problem.

Dear bansaii2002,
Try to uninstall the docking station by running the uninstall on Device Manager on your computer properties, then Click the Scan For Hardware Changes On Device Manager to find them back!
This is How:
Start>My Computer>(then Right Click to open the context menu)>Choose the 'Properties'>On My Computer Properties Box>Choose the Hardware Tab>Then Click on Device Manager>>> Then Do what I just suggest above!

Good Luck!

Usb ports on the ibm docking station not active

Dear rajeshraja42,
Try to run the recovery CD from IBM Docking station, and reconfigure your system by connecting your docking station while you run them.
Or try this:
Connect your docking station to your Laptop then turn the Computer On!
Start>My Computer--- Then right click--- Choose 'Properties'>On the dialog box, ----choose the 'Hardware' Tab> Choose the Device Manager box by click them>Now You are in the DEVICE Manager Box>>>
Run the Scan For Hardware Changes... Then if you find that your docking station appear with Yellow Question Mark Then, right click on it and choose 'Uninstall' from context menu and answer YES! then Run the SCAN for hardware changes for ONE last time, Your System should find your Docking station as part of your system now!

GoodLuck!

Best Regards,
