DVI to HDMI

HDMI and DVI use the same encoding scheme for video purposes- the only difference is HDMI can carry audio signals and therefore have different connectors- so it is not like the lack of a picture signal is because you are using two different cables (HDMI and DVI). In theory the DVI to HDMI adapter should work.
Is there a possibility that the adapter is defective? Any bent or missing pins?
How long are the cables? If they are of poor quality, a digital signal can be lost at 20 feet. Again, in theory.
The only other thing I can thing of, off the top of my head is to ask, did you change the input selection on your t.v.'s display screen to go from the input source that you get your t.v stations from... to the input source of the Play Station?

I have a Denon AVR 587 and a Phillips DVD Player. I am trying to figure out how to hook the DVD player up to the receiver without using an HDMI Cable. Also I have a laptop with a DVI connector on it that i...

Get the manuals. All is explained there.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Denon-AVR-587-Receivers-manual/id/696ci075/t/2/

Component video is just as good as HDMI.

The unnamed Philips DVD player has a manual somewhere. Try retrevo or drill down into this directory to find it...

http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/

Be patient. The alpha directories are slow to load.

DVI connectors can be adapted to HDMI or component video.

"Web search "dvi to component adapter" "dvi to hdmi adapter"

Your PC's video and display controls will determine how all that works.

Hdmi will not work only use of component cables will.

Hello

The HDMI[1] input on your TV receives digital audio

and uncompressed digital video and audio from an

HDMI device or uncompressed digital video from a

DVI[2] device.

This input is designed to accept HDCP[3] program

material in digital form from EIA/CEA-861/861B-

compliant[4] consumer electronic devices (such as a settop

box or DVD player with HDMI or DVI output).

The HDMI input is designed for best performance

with 1080i high-definition video signals, but will also
accept and display 480i, 480p, and 720p signals.

To connect an HDMI device, you will need:

• one HDMI cable (type A connector)

For proper operation, it is recommended that you use

a short HDMI cable. You should not encounter

difficulty if you use an HDMI cable shorter than 16.4

ft (5m).

HDMI cable transfers both video and audio.

Separate analog audio cables are not required (see

illustration below). Some CDVs (video CDs) may

not output digital audio signals. In that case, you

may hear sound by connecting analog audio cables.

However, if you connect analog audio cables with

this connection, the HDMI terminal on the TV will

not receive the HDMI digital audio signal and you
will hear analog audio only.

To ensure that the HDMI or DVI device is reset

properly, it is recommended that you follow

these procedures:

• When turning on your electronic components,

turn on the TV first, and then the HDMI or

DVI device.

• When turning off your electronic components,

turn off the HDMI or DVI device first, and
then the TV.

To connect a DVI device, you will need:

• one HDMI-to-DVI adapter cable

(HDMI type A connector)

For proper operation, the length of an HDMI-to-

DVI adapter cable should not exceed 9.8 ft (3m).

The recommended length is 6.6 ft (2m).
• one pair of standard analog audio cables
OK

Can i connect a dvid cable from the monitor to my flat screen tv hdmi to watch videos from my computer? Thank you Martin

the Flat Screen TV if has, a HDMI input, also has VGA Input.

You must choose :HDMI or VGA, if HDMI The VGA board must Have HDMI Connector, and you connect a HDMI cable to the TV.

The HDMI is a digital signal input/output, VGA is Analog Signal. You must have Signal Converter if you Use the 2 signals

I can not connect my pc to my samsung dlp

Not all TVs have video inputs to directly connect the computer output. Some computers have video cards that have separate outputs(usually S-Video) which you can use. Or you can purchase a video card that has the proper outputs.

If your computer has a DVI output, and your TV has an HDMI imput, there are cheap adapters that you can buy, as HDMI can process the DVI signal directly, just the cable is different.

If you need more assistance, we would need to know the models/outputs/inputs of both the computer and the TV.

Best Regards

HDMI->DVI cable won't work

Are you using a HDMI to DVI cable or are you using a HDMI to DVI adapter? Sometimes, though not on all products you have to go into the menu and select which out put your using for each source and whats going through it. You might need to go into your dvd player menu and tell it not to try to run audio through the cable. That way it's not trying to force a signal through the cable that cant be accepted by the TV. That might possible solve your problem for the DVD player. Let me know if it works

Dell w3000 & PS3

This may not be DVI issue.
I connected DVD player HDMI ----> DVI ( Dell W3000) LCD TV.
Later I found that Dell TV version of DVI does not support HDCP protocol ( High Definition Content Protection protocol). So I could not play HDMI to DVI movies from my DVD player instead I use Y Pb Pr -- this works ok.

Hope this helps... I am not use PS3 enforces HDCP - I assume Sony linked with Sony Pictures would enforce HDCP on HDMI cable.
