A flashing red indicator light (upper left-hand corner) occurs when the Centro is connecting to the the cell phone network. The light will continue to blink until it gets a strong enough signal to make a good connection. Try turning the phone on from different locations to see which one makes a good connection

sounds like a mechanical failure.

It sounds like you have alt or sym function on which is turning your inputs into numbers and symbols. You will have a logo in the upper right hand corner showing you which feature is activated. Turn it off.If you are unsure what I am referring to in turn turn press ALT twice and watch the logo in the upper corner, turn it off and do the same with SYM. You should be able to use your keyboard as normal now.
If the battery was inserted to the unit prior to its storage, it might be the cause. Try charging battery directly in its cradle overnight or use new battery pack. If not then its hardware and/or formware problem. Sometimes electronic gadgets fail to work after prolonged storage due to to capacitor/condenser in its circuitry.
