I have the same problem. Lights flicker but never powers up. It use to work by unplugging and waiting for a few minutes. But now that doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Your lamp life is most likely at the end of its life - you need a new one, make sure you get the right Osram one (I think they are as little as $120 or as much as $200). Replacement is fairly straightforward (15 minutes).

There is a compartment in the back with two screws.
Unscrew lamp enclosure inside
Pull out enclosure
Unscrew wires from bulb
Pull wire clamps off of each side of bulb with pliers
Remove lamp and replace with new one (note orientation and do not handle the front of the bulb)

BTW - to confirm that this is the bulb, count the number of green flashes to amber ones:

Green x 2, Amber x 1, Lamp LED off - Cooling Fan failure

    Green x 3, Amber x 2, Lamp LED flash - Lamp Failure

Green x 5, Amber x 2, Lamp LED off - Hardware failure (more serious analysis required).

Unplug it from wall, wait 1 minute, then re-connect and power up.

Try a reset. Start by unplugging for 1 minute, then plug back in & if still won't restart try the following. If none of the following work, you will need a technician.

Initializing the TV in many cases can remedy a problem.
In the 2006 product line Initialization is now a user function.
Pressing the front panel "INPUT' and "FORMAT"

Projection TV keeps shutting down

Good Day;

Sounds like you have a bad green picture tube that has failed. To check this out; remove front speaker grill, remove small panel, you will see three CRT's (pictue tubes) sticking down, remove the little board on the middle tube then restore power. If TV stays on more then likely the CRT is bad but not always the driver on board could also be bad, check voltages.

Good Luck, big IRISH.

Green flashes then tv turns off

or a new lamp. you could first replace the lamp.
the screen might work fine for a couple of seconds, but then it fades away or deteriorates. This means the lamp is going bad.

KP51ws500 turns green and shuts itslelf off

There may be several causes but, one is that when any color gun is being over driven, the Sony shuts down the gun to protect it. Try this. Remove the front of the set by removing the two screws from each lower corner. Next remove the black panel held on by 5 or 6 screws. Now you should see a panel with 6 potentiometers on it. Turning the ones on the bottom row CCW reduces the drive. Turn the color down and if all the guns stay lit, SLOWLY turn them up until you get the color balance that you like.

Power LED blinks red

it is a bad fan. it also could be a power supply. Quite often the real problem is dirt clogging up the fan(s) to the point that they need to be replaced. Operation of the set in a dirty environment is not a good idea
