Question about Zenith DVD & Blu-Ray Players

1 Answer

I just bought a zenith xbr716 dvd/vcr combo and have things hooked up as follows: DirecTV receiver connected to tv by coax cable. DirecTV receiver connected by a/v cables-receiver on input row and dvd/vcr on output row. Dvd/vcr connected to stereo by a/v cables-stereo going out and dvd/vcr input. My problem is that turning on the dvd/vcr gets me no picture from the machine. The TV show that I'm watching remains on. There is no way that I can find to make the setup screen for the dvd/vcr show up. There is no TV/VCR button on the remote. I have set the dvd player to AV1 using the input key on the remote (there is a display window built into the dvd that shows I have done that correctly). What do I do to see the picture? This question seems crazy for someone that isn't intimidated by hooking up electronics.

I don't know if this will work but try entering four 0 (zeros) first. If it doesn't work enter as many 0 (zeros) that you can and see if that works. Hope this helps :)

Combo VCR/DVD player has no cable connection on back> How do I hook it up, through adigital box, to an older TV with one set of white, yellow and red connections?

What outputs are available on the digital box? If you have composite out (AV), then you connect the yellow (video), red and white (audio) to the VCR composite IN on the DVD player. Then connect the composite out from the DVD player to the TV. You will need an extra RCA composite cable. If you need one, they can be found in most stores. (try an online shop that specializes in cables to avoid an outrageous price). The VCR In is to the Right of the DVD/VCR Out.

If the incoming cable is only available with a coax connection, you will need a set top box and a coax splitter. Connect the incoming coax to the input of the splitter. Then connect one coax cable to the TV antenna/cable in. Connect the other to the set top box and then connect the composite output of the set top box to the VCR composite IN.

The manual and the quick start guide are available as PDFs here: http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?slg=en&scy=us&ctn=DVP3345VB/F7 . For diagrams of the connection to a cable or other set top box see the FAQs on the right hand side of the page.

If your cable box has some other output, you will need an appropriate converter to go from component to composite video for example.

I hope this helps.

There has got to be a way

I have this model..was trying to hook it up to a directv hughes receiver. After a day of trying and many curse words I found that using this hookup works . Hook up your satellite connection to you tv as usual...Now plug rca cables(red, yellow white) into the corresponding holes on the BACK of the Directv receiver ..now plug the rca cables into the FRONT of the Magnavox player...you will only use find holes for the white and yellow(that's ok) Now hook up up the dvd player to the tv using the rca connection back of dvd/vcr player..or if your tv only has a coax connection you will need a rf modulator available at walmart etc. You will run the dvd/vcr on L2. The key is the connections to the FRONT of the dvd/vcr player..I hope this helps..:)

Would like to record from my tv to my magnavox dvd/vcr combo box

If I understand your request right, You do not have cable or satellite box.
You can not record from your TV. You use the TV as a monitor from the dvd/vcr combo box. What the box receives is what shows on the TV. So you will have to have a digital convertor hooked to the (antenna in) dvd/vcr combo box, (antenna out to the tv antenna in) Depending on the antenna you are using that is on the other end of your cable-in coax connection this will hook to your antenna in on the digital convertor box. If your cable is hooked up and operating correctly and directly to the tv that is digital ready you probabbly have a good picture. When the vhf/uhf signal was transmitted you could go from the dvd/vcr to the tv with no problem. But now that the signal is digital and the tv is set for digital the dvd/vcr will not pass a digital signal to the tv. Best suggestion, you have to get a digital dvd/vcr receiver. Cable/ant. hook-up

If you have a yellow/white jack on your DVD/VCR unit you can connect it to the TV using composite cables. If you only have the coax output on the DVD player you can buy an RF modulator that will convert the coax to composite also. But if you have two ports on thhe DVD player as most combos do the top is usually an input source such as cable and the bottom is the output that goes to the back of the tv. You could also buy a "splitter" and attach the cable and dvd coaxs to each of the out ports(they will be side by side) and on the opposite end, which is the in run a coax from that port to the tv coax port.
I hope this helps you out. If you need assistance you can visit me on the chat portion of this website.

Connecting coax to my DVD/VCR combo

For the DVD portion, you need to use either composite, component, or possibly S-Video or HDMI. DVD players do not utilize coax, since they do not incorporate tuners. However, since you have indicated it is also a VCR, it should have a coax input/output for that. perhaps it is a player only and doesn't have a tuner? But I have never heard of this in a combination unit. At any rate, if it truly does not have a coax input, then you will have to leave the coax connected directly to your TV and use the above mentioned connections between the home theater, TV, and DVD/VCR unit. Audio between the DVD/VCR and home theatre, and video between the DVD/VCR and TV

Unable to record from tv

I have the same problem and I called Zenith for support. I was told that the ZBR716 does NOT have a "tuner", so the only way you can record what is on TV is if, and only if, the TV has OUTPUTS (3 connectors), which could be connected to the ZBR716's inputs. But then you could only record what is currently being watched on TV. You could not record and watch something else, or set up to record something at a particular time on a particular channel, because the TV has to be on.

Unfortunately, I didn't look into this until some time after I bought the unit, so I can't return it. I was told to get a VCR/DVD recorder WITH a tuner.

I, too, had a VCR with a separate coax connection for the incoming cable tv,and it worked like your other one did.

My fault for not looking into it sooner, Circuit City's fault for selling me something when I was very specific about what I wanted and what I wanted to do with it.

you can call zenith yourself, go to www.zenith.com and hit the support page and eventually you'll find the phone number.

good luck.

Zenith xbr716

ALL cable is digital.
What type of TV do you have? Does it have any scart conections on it? If not connect the Cable box with a scart lead to your VCR select the AV channel on your VCR, connect your VCR to your TV via the RF connection, (if it has not got one, its not a TV, its a monitor). Tune your TV in to the video channel.
You do not need an RF modulator for a home TV setup, whoever told you that is a fool.
