Question about Dishwashers

Kitchenaid dishwasher (top of the line 2000 vintage) problem

Kitchenaid dishwasher is flashing the "rinse only" and "add-a-dish" LEDs and does nothing else. Pressing the Drain button causes the "add-a-dish" light (only) to stop flashing and the 7-segment LED to display --. Pressing it again changes it back to only having both aforementioned LEDs flash.

The supplied link,http://www.repairclinic.com/0088_9_1.asp... was no help whatsoever. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • denise_s Aug 27, 2008

It does have a manual, but does not indicate anything about LED flashing (codes). If there where a fault code, I would have expected it to be displayed in the dual 7-segment LEDS.

  • denise_s Aug 27, 2008

I've turned the breaker off for at least 5 minutes (to make sure, twice) in an attempt to reset the controller, but to no avail; it powers back up in the same state.
What else can I do to validate that it is the control panel, and if so, where is the best place to get one (where on the internet or bricks-and-mortar store)?
    Thanks.

Calling a tech is what I'm trying to avoid by using this service. Kitchen Aid does not have tech support via phone or email (according to the CS person I talked to). I just need someone to tell me what part to replace based on what I've described, and I haven't gotten that yet. I've previously thought of all teh supplied responses prior to submitting to this service - I need specifics, not common knowledge. Thanks.

Remove the lower panel under the dishwasher door. There's usually a tech sheet provided by the manufacturer that gives troubleshooting advice, along with explanations of all fault codes. The flashing light sequence is a fault code and the tech sheet will explain this to you. These codes differ between models and turning off the dishwasher will not correct it. There is a a front panel sequence of push buttons you must push to reset the error. If the error persists after you reset it, then you have a definite problem. A repairman would charge much more than premium price you paid.

I'm trying to provide you with assistance, and avoid the repairman as well. Have you checked behind the lower panel under the door like I suggested? There should be a tech sheet somewhere inside the dishwasher that gives information on how to read the sequence of the flashing light fault code. It can also tell you how to reset or clear the fault to see if was just a momentary glitch. It could be that you may not need any parts or service. Based on the fault sequence, it will give advice on how to troubleshoot and/or recommended components to replace. I cannot give you a recommendation on what to replace without knowing the fault code. Unfortunately, all dishwashers are not alike and these fault codes differ between models. Please post back and let me know if you still need assistance.

I am not trying to fix your dishwasher but if you need parts I have ordered from repairclinic before have almost anything you need and can get quickly. Most of these people on here are just trying to get you to give them a fixya rating so they can get paid off of you with a b.s. solution. here is a link just put in your model number and search for panel might be cheap enough to try. good luck

Sir/madam,

It does sound like a control panel issue, try turning the breaker off for 60 seconds, if this does not reset it, you may possibly need a new control panel, fairly expensive part.

thanks
good luck

I would simply call in a tech instead of using guess work it can drive you nutty if you dont and they know what they are looking for

the money you spend here asking for help would pay for the repair to the unit...all of us can guess at what it might be but a tech will know and can probably have you up and going again in a half an hour

Does your dishwasher has a manual? try to see it and look for the led light section settings.

Dishes not getting clean

Are dishes too greasy!
Check incoming water for free flow
Add correct quantity of soap as per manual. Use dish washer friendly soap. Fill rinse aid liquid in the dispenser meant for it.

Select a different cycle programe and give a try.

We have a kitchenaid KUDS25SHBL1, serial number FK1130619. It doesn't work well and we think it might be old. It came with the house, so we're not sure the year. How can we tell? We appreciate your help:)

Residue left on dishes after washing. Looks like mineral deposits. Unsure if this is a dishwasher or water softener problem. Also rinse aid dispenser not working. Light that tells you to add does not work.

Bits of food on glasses

I have the same problem, and sometimes, when I add salt to my water softener, the problem goes away until the next time I need to add salt. Other times, I have no idea when I'm going to have the crud in the glasses. I've tried different detergents, rinse agents and even different shaped glasses. Seems the glasses which have slightly larger bottoms than tops are worse.

No water heater problem. Make sure you are using rinse aid formula and back off the soap to 1/2 of what you were using.

the problem is hard water. this is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system and it actually filters the water going into the dishwasher. i tried everything to get my dishes clean but nothing worked until i tried this system. my glasses all had a white, cloudy look to them and it was terrible. you can get it at www.dishwasherfilter.com. it is very affordable and works amazing. the filter fits right under the sink and solves the problem immediately. if you use the discount code DFMTEN you will get 10% off
