DI-524 router problem

When the D-Link is hooked up to another computer the IP address does not register although the lights on the router are on I have reinstalled it an rebooted both computers along with my DSL. This worked on my laptop with no problems at all now that the PC is hooked up I get absolutely no connection.

    Hi Annette,

When your laptop is connected and getting on the web just fine, are you using a wireless or wired connection? Let's first eliminate some potentially obvious issues before we delve deeper.

D-Link Router, Model DI-524 is not able to register IP address. My cable company did maintenance yesterday and this morning unable to link to internet with Router hooked up to modem. Apparently no good...

Sometimes when ISP's do maintenance the DHCP servers re-assign new IP numbers. When you have symptoms like yours it's because the modem, router, and computer are working off previously assigned old IP numbers that may have then been re-assigned to other customers modems after the maintenance. Same with the router. Rebooting your equipment causes them to pull new IP numbers and things start working again.

So, usually a reboot will fix it. Turn off the computer(s). Turn off or unplug the power cables from both the modem and the router. Keep them off for 3 or 4 minutes. Leave the data cables connected. Plug the power to the modem back in FIRST. Give it a few minutes to come up. Any lights should be green. If the lights don't come up green on the modem you'll need to call the cable company.

Second, plug in the router and let it come up. Again, lights should be green. Lastly, turn on the computer.

That should do it. If not, please post back. There are other things to try.

How to open d-524 router home page

How to access the router set up ?

You will need to check the IP address of the computer.
Do you have any computer connected to the rotuer ?
If not then you will need to check the IP address of that computer. The default gateway will be the IP address of your router.
Use that number to access the router page.

I have an acer netbook. The wireless connection is excellent but i can't surf the internet. If I try to repair it tells me that cannot renew IP address

1. Please check your D - Link router's DHCP is enable or not.

2. Please check your computer's IP address on automatic.

3. Please check your D - Link router on mixed mode.

I have router DI-524 and am unable to connect to internet thru this router. But it says, it is connected

I would do a hard reset by pushing the small button on the back. You will need a small pen to push it. Push and hold down button till the lights flash I would/ say 10-15 seconds should be good enough. Once it's reset try setting up all of your settings again. Remember if you have dsl you will need you username and password to be inputed in some cases. If it is broadband most likely you will not have to bother with username and pass hope this helps.

2 Notebooks without router acces at the same time

Under the DHCP settings, make sure that there is enough IP addresses for the router to assign. Although DHCP is somewhat "automatic" if there is not a sufficient range of IP addresses for the DHCP server to assign, then only a small number of clients can connect. See this page here: http://support.dlink.com/emulators/di524/h_dhcp.html

Also make sure that your notebooks are not set to the same static IP address, only one device can connect to a specific IP address. To check this under Windows XP, Right-click your wireless network connection and select "Status" then "Properties". Highlight the "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" and select "Properties". Make sure that the radio buttons "Obtain IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are selected. Click OK and OK to close the windows and save the settings.

I would also unplug the router, wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and try to reconnect. Sometimes for whatever reason, the routers memory can get corrupted, (just like a computer) and need to be restarted.

Ip address

By default the IP address should be 192.168.0.1.

If it will not accept it
>Make sure your computer is wired or connected to your DI-524
XP version
>Try going start>run > type in CMD
>on the black screen type in ipconfig and hit enter.
>Look for the Default Gateway that would be the IP address that your DI-524 is using.

Windows Vista
>Click Start>All Programs > Accessories > click on command prompt
>type in ipconfig
>Look for IPV4 for the Default Gateway and that would be the IP address of your router.

If not allowing to access the login page, try pressing the reset button for 15 seconds at the back of your DI-524 but pressing the reset button will reset the setting of your wireles setting. Once your press the reset button type in 192.168.0.1 on the address bar and you should be having the login page. use Admin/admin for the username and leave the password blank and click ok...

DI-524 Wireless

Yes you can, it's easy.

1. Just connect one of the LAN ports of the DI-524 to a LAN port of your other router. Leave the DI-524 WAN port empty.
2. Disable the DHCP server on your DI-524, your other router will be the DHCP server.
3. Assign a static IP address to you DI-524, different from your other router's. Example, if your other router has 192.168.2.1, you may assign 192.168.2.4. Make sure that the IP address you assign is outside the DHCP range configured in your other router and that the subnet mask is identical on both.

Disabled dhcp, cant access router with browser

the default ipaddress for that is 192.168.0.1 you will need to set your computer with a ip address like 192.168.0.2 then you should be able to access it. be sure to change your computer back to DHCP after you reset the router
