External monitor confirmation means that you're not getting anything out. If there truly are not words coming up, telling you what's up, then you're probably looking at a bad logic board. It could be bad video, but if nothing, not even a fan, is spinning up, then you're not getting power across the system. Check all your power connections and inputs, but I'm leaning towards a bad system board.

The price difference in the cables are what type of metal wire that is in it. One might have copper or even gold plated and the lower price one might have some low end metal.
