My dyson slim has worked like a champ for the last three years. But when I vacuumed today, I noticed that it was picking things up, but the canister wasn't filling. And then I couldn't snap the thing back upright. It looks as though the hose connecting the brush mechanism to the rest of vacuum is packed tightly with dust, not allowing the machine to lock into its upright position. How do I take it apart to empty it and pull out the clog?

Sorry. Almost all Dyson cordless machines last 2 years and fail. Don't get fooled again by advertising. buy a better brand next time. Local vac shop can help you decide what is a good choice for your needs.

You're a bit unclear on what screws you took apart to 'clean it'. If you took the canister apart, then this Snapguide page
How to Clean Dyson DC07 Canister goes through taking the top section thoroughly apart, and has some notes about things needing to line back up properly, which might help in the event that you're not getting things to snap back together right. I took mine apart solo after picking it up cheap at a flea market, and also recall reassembling the top took a little patience.

There sould be a rubber flap under the pipe.Pull it down to remove dust and **** that gets stuck.

check the hose line from the base to inlet of the canister, there may be a blockage, like hair or plastic (i had a lego block and hair)

clear obstruction, and check the belt.
