I believe the the contacts on the print head carriage may be dirty what you need to do is turn off the printer and with a soft cloth and a bit of isopropyl alcohol or even a bit of window cleaner wipe the metal contacts in the holder that the ink cartridge sits you then check the print cartridge itself to be sure that nothing transfered to it this is the most common problem
