    Creative Zen V

  • kimpsmith Sep 04, 2008

The manual states that I should not remove the battery. Should I ignore this and try your solution anyway? Will it make a difference now that the battery is completely run down (when it froze and wouldn't shut off)? And if it makes a difference, it is a Zen V.

    Hope someone can advise. Thanks

Hi,

On most MP3 players, a couple of possibilities to unfreeze:

  • see if there is a reset button, if yes, press on it. Often the reset would be recessed inside a pinhole. Of course in some cases, since the unit will reset/revert to factory defaults, all stored information may be lost;
  • check the manufacturer's website. They sometimes have recovery utility programs, or even a firmware upgrade/flash;
  • open the unit and remove the battery.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Thanks for giving your player model name.....Try these steps to troubleshoot your player:

Reset the player with a pin in the little reset hole.

    The player is now Off.

Press the Play/Pause button and hold that button.

Turn the player on, while holding the Play/Pause button still.

When you see the Recovery Menu, release the Play/Pause button.

Now you have 4 options. 3 of those are usefull to you.

First you can choose Cleanup. Player will scan itself for corrupt data,
and clean it up. Your music will not be erased, so that's a bonus.

When this is done, choose Reboot. Player will restart, show "rebuilding
library" once more, and then it will work again, problem solved.

If for some reason the problem is not solved, choose Format All in the
same menu. This will erase all data of the player (except for the
firmware) Again, choose Reboot, player will rebuild library and be
    fixed afterwards.

Now your player is back to normal. What has caused the problem? Most
probably cause is that you put Wave (wav) files on it, this player
    doesn't like those very much.

You can improve the stability of the device by putting the newest firmware on it, Creative has a handy tool for that:

    http://ie.europe.creative.com/landing/MP...

This little guideline is for your player, the Zen V Plus. Other people
with other simular problems may need a slightly different guideline.
They can send me an email if they like. If I have some time on my hands
I will even answer it :)

You can just email Creative as well... This is a very common thing, and
I am surprised you would ask it on Yahoo before contacting the
    manufacturer.

Anyway, let me know if it's resolved please.

    Thanks

If it has a removable battey first remove the battery to see if you can unlock it.

If the battery is internal you will need to take it apart to reset the battery.

If it does not unfreeze, then it is likely a problem with a firmware, but you cannot update or reinstall firmware if mp3 does not start.

Some brands and models have a reset button that sometimes can fix this problems.

The manual wisely suggest to call a qualified technician if you have a problem of this kind.
As usually, if you decide to DIY you do it at your risk, damaging an electronic device is always easy.
Ask to a local repair shop how much do they charge, and then evaluate if you want to take the risk, taking unit apart and removing battery, or you want to take the unit to a repair shop.

My philips gogear vibe wont turn on

Reset your GoGear with something sharp like the tip of a pen or the end of a paper clip,

if you're device isn't working properly or there's a frozen display.

Insert the sharp object into the "Reset" hole (located at the bottom of the player), and hold it there until the device turns off.

If resetting the device does nothing to restore the display, access the "Philips Device Manager" through your computer to recover the GoGear.

Click "Start" on your computer, then "Programs," "Philips Digital Audio Player," "Aria Device Manager," and then "Philips Device Manager."

This will launch the "Philips Device Manager." Make sure the GoGear is turned off completely. Connect your GoGear to your computer while holding down the "Volume Up" button.

Continue to hold the "Volume Up" button on your GoGear, until the "Philips Device Manager" recognizes the device and enters recovery mode.

Click the "Repair" button when it appears on your computer, then folow the steps to fully recover the GoGear.

Properly disconnect your GoGear from your computer and restart the device.

Recharge your device if your GoGear dies suddenly while playing.

Connect the GoGear to your computer via the supplied USB cord.

Plug one end of the USB cord into a functional, open USB port on your computer. Plug the free, smaller end of the USB cord firmly into the small USB jack on your GoGear and turn your computer on.

This will begin the charging process of your GoGear.

If recharging doesn't work, the battery may need to be replaced.

Check that your GoGear isn't in standby mode. Hold the "Power" button for two seconds to turn it back on.

hope this helps

My gogear if frozen. Will not power off.

Hello :

Your GoGear may not respond to button presses from time to time. This is often caused by an error in the operating system and can be fixed by resetting the device. Resetting the GoGear is similar to rebooting your computer. You will not lose any of the data uploaded to the device. To reset the GoGear, press the "Reset" button located on the left of the device. The screen will go blank for a few seconds and then turn back on.

If the GoGear freezes after uploading a file to the device or if one song or sound file freezes the device each time you play it, the file is likely corrupt and needs to be removed from the GoGear. Connect the GoGear to a computer and delete the file from the device.

My computer wont recognize my USB

Hi,

Try the following steps:

Resetting the device:
1. Press and hold the Power/Menu button for approximately 20 seconds.
2. Release the Power/Menu button.
3. Press the Power/Menu button again to turn on the player.

NOTE: Resetting will turn the player off while it is frozen.

If that doesn't work, then you may download and install the Sansa Firmware Updater and update to the latest firmware.

Creative zen v problems-frozen

If a reset does not work using the reset hole, then try this: First, back up all of your music and do this: Turn off the player and disconnect it from the computer. Then press and hold the play/puse button and turn it on simultaneously. The player should be in recovery mode. Scroll down and select format (all) and let it format. Then reload all of music back onto your player and it should work like new. Hope this helps!

You should let the battery be flat and then charge it.
It'd then work. It happened to me twice. Hope this helps.
