    hi
the cable is ok, because i already replaced it, the cable is new....
i think it's some kind of driver issue, but the driver on IBM site just won't work.

Download and use this driver instead, EPSON TM-88II Printer Driver, 4.00.

Good luck.

Use generic text driver - go for LPT (default port) then change the installed printer properties later.

get the serial settings of the printer first (bauds etc).

Follow these steps to run the print diagnostic utility.

  1. Double-click the print diagnostic utility icon on the computer desktop.
  2. The print diagnostic utility checks for issues with the following:
    • Connection
    • Spooler service
    • Print queue
    • Product status
    • Device manager
    • Wrong port
    • Wrong print driver
  3. If the print diagnostic utility identifies an issue with any of these settings, a red X appears next to the item. If the utility does not identify an issue, a green check appears next to the item.
  4. If a red X appears next to any of these items, click the Fix button to resolve the issues.
  5. Click Test Print at the bottom of the print diagnostic report to print a test page. If the test page prints successfully, the issue is resolved and there is no need to continue with further steps.
  6. If the test page does not print successfully, click Restart Computer .
  7. After the computer restarts, print another test page.
If all of these steps have been completed and the issue continues, proceed to Solution two: Resolve the issue manually. Solution two: Resolve the issue manually Complete these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue manually. Step one: Print a test page

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the product and from the computer.
  2. Wait five to six seconds.
  3. Reconnect the USB cable to the product and computer.

Hi,

Initially, I would suggest:

  • run an OFFLINE Test on the 4610-TF6 to verify that the printer is operational;
  • check/replace the RS232 cable;
  • try using an EPSON TM88II driver. 4610-TF6 and 4610-TM6 can emulate a single station Epson printer.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

A marginal cable which will work on one computer printer port and not on the other; not likely. It should be an IEEE-1284 (bi-directional cable). Check for pushed-in pins on the printer cable. Screw the PC end down and latch the Centronics end at the printer. Remove any other device you may have attached to the port; e.g., scanner. Click Cancel, turn the printer off, unplug the printer cable, wait a few seconds, reconnect the cable, make sure the printer is on with no error lights, restart Windows, and try again. Remove and reinstall the paper (paper out can cause a printer communications error, at least it can in DOS). Try the various printer modes in your computer's CMOS Setup. ECP+EPP usually works with bi-directional printers, but others may fix the problem. Try F8 just as Windows starts to boot, select the DOS prompt from the resulting menu, find a non-zero length text file (one that is 1-2K would be a good choice) (e.g., autoexec.bat or something ending in .txt), and print from DOS with:
C:\>type autoexec.bat>lpt1:
or
C:\>type filename.txt>LPT1:
If that works consistently, the problem is probably in Windows.
Be sure Windows is set-up correctly with the correct printer driver and something else (another printer, FAX, etc.) is not assigned LPT1: Be sure the 710 is set as the default Windows printer. Try it on another desktop computer. If that works, try another printer on the suspect computer. I have seen cases where a baby AT motherboard was upgraded, but the printer cable/header assembly from the old motherboard was used and caused problems, but that is very rare. Also, the cable connecting to the motherboard could be backwards or loose.

It can be a connection problem, since the printer and the computer are not communicating, probably the cable is bad, so if you have a different cable that we can try that will be better so we can check if its only a cable problem ...

Hope that helps......

If you already tried a new cable so this is really not a problem with the cable, try to download the software from IBM then try to go to printers and faxes then just try to add a new printer and follow the wizard until you're done installing the printer software..

Printing only one side

Most likely the small 'roller' on the LHS of the paper feed shaft is missing. This roller engages the metal 'yoke' on the LHS when the printer lid closes and provides a suitable pressure for the paper to contact the thermal head. They break into 2 pieces sometimes and fall away from the shaft. Solution: remove circlip and replace the roller if you can get one. I have them made.

IBM 4610 TG4 offline.

if it printing trash more than likely you have a driver problem, where are you getting the driver for your printer?

try to look for another driver and test by going to ibm's website:
http://www.ibm.com/products/finder/us/finders?Ne=5000000&tmpl=%2Fproducts%2Ffinder%2Fus%2Fen%2Ffinders&finderN=1000188&pg=ddfinder&lc=en&cm_re=other-_-suprcn-_-download&collectionN=0&sid=304421691223506248263&cc=us&C1=5001220

good luck!

IBM 4610 suremark receipt printer

Hello all,

had the same problem and my solution was to install the latest driver available at the IBM service/driver website. Then unistall it with another IBM driver cleaning tool, then repeat both processes a couple of times, until the printer responded. There is some bug on these latest drivers an older Windows versions, so only after some installations and repairs on the first install, windows gets it right. VERY STRANGE but it worked in 2 machines, both IBM terminal and 4610-tf6 IBM printer.

By the way; RS232 ibm cable...I believe its a null modem 9 pin...not a regular serial cable.
Dip pin config: my printers have 4 so; 1ON 2ON 3OFF 4OFF which means
1 size of paper you are using 80mm
2 if you use an IBM software or other:other
3 if xon/off or DTR/DSR:hardware
4 com speed: 9600baud or 19200baud, 9600

That's what I igured out. If you need any more info: mail
