Many parents don’t consider it a necessity since their reasoning is that their children don’t use the pool unless they are around. What is worse, many of them place a fence around the pool considering that it will give enough security. Although that is true, someone may have left the door unsecured or the child may have found an access that a grown up wouldn’t have noticed. Unfortunately, children are very curious, and can escape the attention of a distracted parent who went to answer the phone or felt asleep under the sun. It only takes a couple of minutes for the inevitable to occur. So, a swimming pool alarm isn’t only a system placed for those moments when you are not around, but a complement to eliminate the human risk factor. A machine is capable of doing what we can’t: perpetual surveillance. Like it or not, we humans are more prone to make mistakes than them.

How can false alarms be prevented?

Make sure that all the doors and windows are locked properly before you leave. Be careful with those things which can possibly trigger off the home alarm system like moving of the curtain, plants etc.

I have an sr500 stingl system on my spa, the motor keeps shuting down and alarming giving a code error 17. I reset the punp as the direction say, try to reset the pump it comes for about one minuite then...

Had same problem I think its s defect. I had to jump out the stingl to keep pump running because I was getting a 30 second fluctuations of voltage being passed through the line side of the switch. I had constant 110 v going in but 110 v coming out for 30 seconds then 0 v and back and forth until alarm sounded. My relays and wiring were all good so it has to be the stingl. They were in such a rush to produce them for the new law that they were not tested properly and have had many problems. This is my third stingl for the same operation all having different problems. I'd contact the company for a replacement.

I have a Pool Eye PE23 and the instructions don't show how to install it on an above ground pool. Do I put it on the railing as I haven't got a deck for the pool?

This particular pool alarm is made for an inground pool. As far as I am aware, you cannot use in on an above ground pool. You will need a pool alarm that is designed for an above ground pool.

Alarm only goes off if something goes off in deep end

These pool alarms are designed so any time something breaks the surface of the water, the alarm is sounded. They are designed for movement in the entire pool. Make sure that your alarm is positioned properly so that it is not strictly monitoring the deep end of your pool.

Alarm Types

There are many types of swimming pool alarms. Let’s examine each one of them: Gate or Door Alarms They are composed of a magnetic sensor that is placed on the door to the pool. If the door is opened while the pool gate alarm is activated, it will give an alert to the parents. If you have a gate, it’s essential to have one of this, but should not be considered as the only surveillance tool. Perimeter Alarm It is composed by an array of sensors that are placed around the pool. That way, if someone trespasses it, it will give an alarm. Although it sounds as a perfect system, it has some limitations since it needs to be adjusted to your child’s height. What about visitor’s children? Additionally, one of the sensors could be moved by an animal, wind, rain or snow. Wrist Alarm They have become one of the preferred methods to control children. It is a waterproof device that is placed around the wrist of your child. That way, if he falls inside the pool, it will send a signal to the station, which will give an alarm to the parents. The two disadvantages of this product are that it is expensive and requires the child to use it all day long. Floating Sensors These devices are placed in the pool and detect the motion of objects inside the water. Although practical, a floating pool alarm is a bit expensive. Their main disadvantage is that if the sensor is removed from the water, there is no way to know if something is happening at the poo

How does the alarm work?

The Pool Alarm can be a life saver because it is mounted to the side of the pool and has an electronic sensor that detects any agitation in the water other than ripples caused by the wind. When triggered, the Pool Alarm will give off a very loud noise around the pool as well as at the receiver placed inside your home.

Recommended pool alarm

The type of pool alarm suggested would probably be good, but I would suggest a perimeter type also there are door alarms. I would prefer to run after and stop my child from falling into the pool than to wait till he/she does falls in. The best alarm is yourself in doing things to prevent the child from getting out to the pool. I added a smaller type of dead bolt at the top of the door/doors leading to the pool and I make sure both dead bolts are locked at all times. If I'm out by the pool then common sense tells me to be aware of where my child is at all times. Also I have a home alarm system that is zoned so the rear doors and windows are armed.
