1. if the power went out and then back on it is possibly due to a "power surge" and it possibly damaged the power supply to the Cisco router and or to the router itself.
2. check the routers power supply and replacement is needed if the router was not plugged into a surge protected socket.

Solution:

Step 1:
Make sure the that router is connected to your modem with an ethernet cable via the router’s internet (WAN) port.

Step 2:
Unplug the modem from its power source and make sure that it's totally turned OFF. Then re-plug the modem to the power source.

Step 3:
Unplug your router’s power supply, wait for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. This will cause the router to reestablish communication with the modem.

If you still cannot browse the web, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

I have a motorola SB5120 modem but no disc for it.How can I make it work?

With this type of modem no type of software will be required to establish a connection to your computer or router. However the modem will still need to be registered with your internet service provider. If you do not have the software to complete the registration process you will need to contact your ISP. The good news is that the registration of the modem should not take more than a few minutes and can be performed over the phone. After the registration has been completed connect the modem to your computer via a Ethernet cable. You may need to perform a hard reset of the modem at this time. To do this turn off your computer and unplug the power cable from your modem. Wait 2 minutes and reconnect the modems power cable. Give the modem another 2 to 5 minutes to reestablish the connection to your ISP. Power back on the computer and you should have internet access.

I hope the information above has helped in some way.

Thomson Cable modem has an ethernet connection...
The ethernet connection goes to your computer via a standard Cat5e patch cable. There is no USB that I know of...
Cablevision wire goes to the modem. It should be the first device on the cablevision wire. If you need a splitter, it needs to be a GOOD one, connected DIRECTLY to the incoming Cablevision wire as it enters the house. Use good copper wire.

Order of events:
Connect the cablevision wire to the Modem.
Connect the Ethernet cable to the computer and the modem.
Power on the cable modem.
Right click the network Icon near the clock and click 'repair' (Or reboot the computer)
Apply for and get an account for cable Internet from your Cable company.
After a few days, cable Internet should work.

I cann't connect to some specific web when using the NetGear router. I never have this problem before. I have try bypass it by connect my internet directly to the modem then the web get in is ok, by when I...

a lot of times its the sequence of the reboot for each device. what happens is, the modem connects to a particular device (computer, router, etc.) and then establishes that connection as a relationship. if you try to plug the ethernet cable into a different device without rebooting the modem, it will never connect. that being said........make all of your connections modem ethernet to router input, then router output to computer ethernet input. then, reboot the modem (with no power plugged into the netgear...its next, just no power yet). once the ready or cable light goes solid and the modem is up, plug the power supply into the router and let it do its thing, then you should see the "i" with a swoosh under it light up, it will be orange for a bit until it connects to the modem, finally turning green. from the router to the computer ethernet.......click your start button on your desktop, click the "run" near the control panel button....a little window pops up down by the start button....type the letters cmd (short for command) and then hit ok button...........black screen for dos pops up with a blinking curser.......type ipconfig then hit enter. the first stages of numbers for the default gateways etc should read close to this 192.168.0.1 (this is the ip of the router). if you see these numbers, you should be able to surf the web. you must do the reboots in the sequence as stated above.. give each interval a minute to do its thing. some newer operating systems need you to physically acknowledge the "new network detected" and select home away office...... so once the reboots and the ipconfig stuff is done but you still cant surf, restart the computer, hopefully when it comes back on it will detect the new network.

I have charter internet with a modem and i have a westell 327w wireless router/modem. How can i connect the two modems to work wirelessly?

I think the Westell Router/modem that you have must be the modem for the DSL connection.
Charter is a cable internet service provider.
You can not use 2 modems connected to each other.
You have a charter modem , you can purchase a wireless router only.
That will work.

Belkin 8231-4 N1 router lost connection to cable modem

It sounds like a problem with the cable provider or cable modem. I have found the local equipment can develope a problem and most customers in that small area think it is their problem and live with it. If you have not called the cable company then get them on the case. Good luck

My modem sometimes work and sometime show only two lights i.e. power and ethernet and do not connect to my dsl internet

Do you know if you have line issues with your phone company? If you're at the outer edges of DSL range from the Central Office, your connection might be dropping. The fact that the power and ethernet lights stay lit shows that the connection might not be on your end. Does the connection get reestablished when you reboot the modem? You may have to get your provider to do connectivity tests on your line.
