Check for water run off from above or sprinklers directed at heater. A high wind stack may be needed due to heater location. Millivolt models have a thermocouple or pilot generator that may be faulty or weak. Loose or rusty connections of the thermocouple to the gas valve or loose coil connection, or short in these wires can shut off a pilot.

H150 will not light

Posted on May 24, 2009

The LX doesn't have a pilot light, it is direct ignition and lights with a ignitor.

The H Series electronic ignition does not have a pilot light. It has an electronic ignition that, if all conditions are met, will start the heating process

Pilot won't stay on

Burners don't have anything to do with the problem of pilot not lighting. Is the problem that flame will not 'stay' lit? Or you can't even get a flame to ignite? If former: possible bad pilot generator or bad gas valve. If latter, possible bad gas valve or no fuel to ignite.

How do i light my heater pilot light? My gas was turned off temporairly but is back on and I need to relight my pilot light.

Your pilot is a spark ignition so it will start itself. You will probally need to bleed the gas line to get it to start. Do this by opening the union outside the cabinet and turn the gas on till you can smell it. Shut the gas off and tighten the union up again and let the gas clear. Then start the gas and seeif it will light at that point.

My pilot light lights and heats the house but then goes out and i have to relight it. Replaced the thermocouple already and had it cleaned. Any ideas? Is it the gas valve?

Probably. Take a voltage reading off the thermo to be sure it is putting out the correct voltage and if it is you would then replace the valve. If not, try adjusting the pilots gas pressure setting. The solenoid in the valve is likely failing and is why the valve likely needs to be replaced.

Lochinvar water heater model LTN040G. Can't move dial from "on" past "pilot" to "off" to relight. Seems like there must be something I need to do to make it move, but can't figure it out.

The valve should be able to be depressed at the pilot setting and as you slowly depress it you should get it to move past pilot to off. You do not however need to go to off. You can go back to pilot and relight it and go back to on.

If it will not relight and will not go back to off it sounds like the valve is damaged internally and will need to be replaced.
