Describe your "model number 113.796810" Problem I

Unfortunately this engine has been discontinued. That being said, you can remove the engine and measure the crankshaft. Take the crankshaft measurements to your local briggs & stratton dealer and see if briggs offers a similar engine. My guess is that the engine on your vac uses a short crankshaft. Probably 7/8" by 1.25" or something similar.
Most of the briggs replacement engines can be ordered with onboard controls and gas tank.
Good luck!

I have a 1992 Tecumseh 5 hp motor that will not start. What is the function of the magneto and how does it work

Hi and welcome to FixYa I am Kelly. The magneto works like this:

1. Inside the flywheel there is a magnetic portion in one segment. As that magnetic segment passes over the coil or electronic ignition module it generates a field in the primary coil winding that via inductance is transferred to the secondary winding. I.e. it is essentially a "step up" transformer. The breaker points take open and close to control the output of the coil / ignition unit so that the timing is exactly at the Top Dead Center (TDC) point when the piston is all the way to the top of the cylinder head. At which point the spark plug transmits the Spark into the cylinder for combustion.

There are a few safety devices that control the output of the ignition coil by grounding the breaker point wire or electronic ignition module wire.
1. The engine kill switch
2. The low oil sensor
3. On most models the handle control switch i.e the bar you press down on at the handle. That switch is there so that if the user lets go of the handle the engine will shut off.

Any one of the 3 can cause the engine not to have spark.

Other things that can cause it are
1. a failed ignition module.
2. a grounded high tension lead (Plug wire)
3. any chassis ground on any leg of the safety circuits.
4. the actual spark plug having a cracked ceramic dielectric or internally grounded.
5. on a newer chipper / shredder there is a chute safety switch that must be made when the chute is installed.

Most all of the above are "ONE wire circuits and each of them are there for user safety. Any ground any where will cause it not to start.

If you get to the point you think the oil safety switch is the problem disconnect ONE of the output leads and check for spark.

Most often the problem for these engines is they have sat idle off season and when the use tries to start it for the next seasons use they are fussy.

What happens is when unit was stored if the piston was not at TDC one of the valves stays open and then corrosion attacks the valve stem and it sticks open with an end reault of little or no compression.
Also what happens is the last seasons fuel can dry out and turn into an almost varnish like substance blocking carb fuel or air passages.

If you need help with "how to" clean the carb passages correctly just respond here and I will pass that along also.

Thanks for using FixYa,

Kelly

I have a troy bilt mulcher model 47057 serial number 470570100839. We need to buy some more blades etc where would be the place to buy the parts from

I would check with an MTD dealer. I look online and found a site for the chipper blades and they wanted $40.00 USD for each. It may be worth your time to take the other ones out and get them sharpened.
Good Day.

I have a Huskee chipper/mulcher that won't start.

Engines need 2 things to run. Fuel and spark. Pull the spark plug, re-connect it to the wire and hold the base of it near the motor. Like about 1/8" near. Pull the cord (you'll probably need a helper). See a spark? yes? Ok that eliminates that.
Fuel is where the problem usually is. Is the fuel in it from previous seasons? Did you put stabilizer in it? Dump the fuel, put in a little fresh fuel and pull over and over until your fresh fuel can get into the carb. Still not popping? Your carb is likely clogged from the residue left from stale fuel. The easy way to deal with that is to replace it, but that can be $60 or more. The next easiest way is to get a carb kit and replace all the gaskets and parts it provides (that apply to your particular carb) while cleaning it along the way. The harder but cheapest way is to take it apart and clean it, trying to re-use all the parts. If you could do this you would not be posting here. If you are the put-in-gas-and-oil-and-pull-the-cord type, bring it to a shop.

I need a owners manual for my mtd mulcher shredder for model #24462G352. I'm trying to install a new bag on this machine. Not sure if I have the correct bag. I bought it used without a bag included....

I also bought a slightly used yardmachines by MTD without the manuel. I found the manuel for chipper shredder model series 462 thru 465 at the Yardmachines MTD website. I printed off the whole manuel consisting of 14 pages and stapled it together. I now have a manuel. I hope You can find it. Fred
